Oh, is it the end of the world again?

I'll get my coat.

The mangaka have to file a complaint first. I think only the most pissy and self-absorbed would do this. Doujinshi circles are fans of the series they do manga of as well. Complaining about them would only kill your fanbase.

Didn't the article say that "third party" people could file the complaint instead? Although I'm not sure whether the mangaka have the final say in whether that complaint goes anywhere.

That said, I think there'll be lots of opposition to that particular part of the trade deal, both from the fans and the mangaka.

This isn't the first time something like this has tried to come to pass.

Allowing third party complaints allows a lot of room for abuse such as what Youtube suffers extremely often. And not giving the copyright holder the final say in the matter is flat out moronic no matter how you look at it since the point of copyrights is to allow the creator control over their creation. Not giving them the final say with complaints is taking away that same control.

There not the only ones running around with bags on their heads, flailing and prophesying doom. Not that prophets have a good track record in general, and I doubt the manga publishing industry is going to shoot itself in the foot at this point.

Lol... what a bunch of idiots. I think Columbia pics should be worried about piracy though, not many people are gonna want to pay to see that.

Automated complaint systems are definitely easily abusable. That one though is just hilarious. A clear example of one of the big issues with these sort of systems though.

That's more or less what's wrong with cracked.com, hell ALL information and trivia sites lately (tv tropes included) and they also have a HUGE bias against anime and japan in general...and their article on Roman Polanski is pure 100% shit

Doubt it'll really do much. Doujins are a good way in japan to mesure a series popularity and it's free PR as well. And as the article state, it's also a good place for mangaka to debut and make themselves known. Not to mention how that would give quite a blow to the comiket.

Aw, but I love Tv Tropes! And Cracked, to a lesser extent. But yeah, information, especially on the internet, is definitely not to be trusted lightly.

It's still reassuring to know that that article was nothing to worry about, though, so thanks.

Personally, my issue with tv tropes is that they try too hard to make every little thing fit their "definitions". And that people take those way too seriously, waving those tropes around as if they were academical facts.

and they erased sono hanabira and kodomo no jikan from their site, well it's obviously a blessing in disguise but still it proves that they're wussies

Why is erasing sono hana from it's site good? I think most people here like the series - if not all, at least some of them.

Because they're such prejudiced self righteous dicks, most of the information on the franchise would be incorrect or probrably has MORE prejudiced information than an average article of cracked.com

Aaaaand that's plenty of that since this isn't a "let's hate on TV Tropes" thread but rather a "let's panic about copyright" thread. Just pushing folks back in the general direction of the topic, don't mind me.

I've been following TPP for awhile. It does include fairly aggressive copyright protection, but it's not very likely to go anywhere soon as they failed to agree on a number of things at their big conference in Hawaii, and now the US/Canadian elections are on the horizon. So I wouldn't worry.

bumping this comment.

I read about this some weeks ago in a blog. The writer also said that the most problematic part of the policy is very unlikely to pass. I also thought to post this here but I don't think it's that big of a deal.
