That was fast...she has got a lot of baggage, Rin...it May be too early gor you to dive there as the normal childhood friend, the water's really deep from now on...
Although, Rin is in no way a normal childhood friend. She's clearly got unaddressed hangups from knowing about Mayu's abuse and having to keep that secret all these years, which, yeah, that is traumatizing in its own way. She is correct to criticize herself for making this all about her, when Mayu is the one actually suffering abuse, but at the same time, it makes sense that she wouldn't be able to handle all that and come out the other end okay. An obvious way her trouble with this manifests is her aversion to Mayu relying on other people. She's in a habit of thought and feeling where anybody else being able to provide for Mayu is either evidence that she failed to keep the secret, or suspicious because they must be abusing her. Frankly, she's not even wrong on that second count. I quite like her.
Unrelatedly, I wonder if Handsy is really a separate entity, or something mom controls? She has the spider association, after all, but she only has two arms, and how many mystery arms do we see descending on Rin's house? Six.
