As I recall, part of the issue is that he traced a copyright image, rather than a stock reference photo or one he'd taken himself. That would have put the publisher on shaky legal ground so I can see them taking it seriously.

Well, that's too bad, i find it odd how he traced to draw the hot stuff when he himself worked on some pretty strong hentai before

I was reading this again (just like everyone else has lately thanks to Stretch) and I was wondering if there was a reason the speech bubbles on pg. 27 in ch.5 are all blank?

Anyhoo, this dude is a wizard at profiles... and long hair.

And just when I thought there's another great Yuri story around. :S

On one hand, I can understand why the manga was put on hiatus, given the likelihood of instances of tracing within the series. On the other hand, I find it both bewildering and frustrating that it was canceled. It's suddenly as if a handful of possible traced images is enough to negate all the script-writing and the majority of the art that he did do himself.

Did not notice this was finally set as "Cancelled", guess that's to be expected. I feel sad all over again, well... at least it ended on a good spot(?)...

Suffering from "Stretch" withdrawal, so I'm re-reading this... It's still a great series by itself, though.

I think I'm the only one who didn't read the tags. Didn't even realize this was cancelled until I saw this thread. I was mainly focusing on the art. Here I thought volume 6.5 was the end of it. I was actually quite satisfied with the ending.

But yeah... I'm sad now to have found all this out.

I've always wondered how he ended up writing something like Prism given the content of pretty much everything else he's ever written ever.

Unlike some manga/anime characters, human beings are complex and multi-dimensional! It's a little dehumanizing to think if someone predominantly wrote hentai for a large amount of their lives, they can't conceive of anything different.

Have you read his hentai?

I could ask you the same question.

Despite being hentai (and lolicon mostly), his characters are fully developed and they always have a reason to act the way they act. If you can't see beyond the porn, that is your limitation, not Shou's.

I've skimmed through one of his out of curiosity, lol. Definitely not my thing and it was a real shocker when I heard about it.

But I still think my point stands. You can't think all Shou has up in his mind is lolicon. Maybe he was targeting a niche market to pay the bills. Who knows?

I have - and I never said I disliked it. But I think there's some justification in wondering how he went from writing very explicit exclusively heterosexual hentai about disturbingly precocious primary school children to a surprisingly touching yuri coming-of-age tale about high school girls. That's a departure from form on every front. Though I suppose not quite as out of character as Stretch - they're actually grown-ups!

You can't think all Shou has up in his mind is lolicon.

Why not?

Come on, just on this forum you'll find people who enjoy het story as much as yuri story, some who will like smut just as much as fluffy romance and so on.

People have a wide range of like and dislike. Shou made some het loli porn book, so what ? I enjoyed prism for what it is : a nice yuri story and I'm disappointed it was cancelled because of some tracing. Maybe he loves both and wanted to try his hand at non-porn mangas, I don't really care considering it gave us one nice manga to read, even if briefly.

Simply because the human brain is more developed than that. Human societies are more developed than that. The notion that Shou, or any hentai writer, has 4+ works on lolicon, therefore they can only conceive of lolicon is just dehumanizing.

It makes it seem as though these writers are one-dimensional and that they can only see the world through one sort of lens and have not experienced a wide range of emotions.

And because of some comments above, it made me actually google other of Shou's works. And yup, I'd stick with my yuri.

Well clearly he's proven at this point that he /can/ write other things. But that doesn't stop plenty of hentai mangaka spending their entire careers just making increasingly extreme works in their chosen genre. Which is clearly a pattern he could have been entering into if you compare his most recent tank to his previous work. Though funnily enough that was released after he did Prism.

Anyway, I was never dissing Shou in the first place anyway - you both put words in my mouth. I was just wondering what his motivation may have been for such a complete departure from his previous work. It was probably something as simple as someone went, "Hey bro, wanna do some yuri?" or maybe he'd wanted to write some yuri for a while and looked for an opportunity to do so. I dunno why you both took umbrage with my original comment.

He must have some interest of his own in yuri though if he wrote Stretch as he has - I can't imagine he was instructed to add the yuri subtext(/text).
