This manga is so good. A perfect example for what a manga based on a movie should be, rather than being a straight adaption it gives extra background information and character moments.

Wait, I'm lost. I accept being called dumb, but this is a manga version of the movie(s?), and it asks what if stuff was different. But I thought that the first movies were just abridged versions of the first two seasons.

As you'll see, this comic doesn't accurate reflect the movie or the original series. It's rather divergent in order of events.

I think A's is the only entry into Lyrical Nanoha canon that does not casually disregard Lyrical Nanoha canon as is convenient to tell the story they want to tell. Arguably including the original series, since it's loosely based off a Triangle Hearts gag short story. It's kind of a fixture, so as long as they're not doing something silly like changing someone's eye color for no reason whatsoever (no I'm not still angry you're angry), I'm fine with it.

Reading through this story again is really making me realize how weird the ages in MGLN are. It's easy to excuse Nanoha and Fate being well respected aces and, effectively, special forces operatives despite their ages, because they're just cracked like that and what are you going to do, tell the gundam she needs to stay home? But it's not just Nanoha and Fate. Yuno is getting, government issued, special authorization to go track down lost logia on an unadministered world, with no supervision and no one thinks that's weird, despite him being 9. Chrono is even worse, because he's a high ranking military officer at 14, which implies all sorts of things about his progression through the ranks. He also explicitly attended a military academy and, going by the flashback image, he was already there when he was 10. So did he go strait from 3rd grade to an academy? Do careers normally start that young on Midchilda? If you're not an admiral by 20 are you considered washed up?

Actually, how much of an education do Midchildans even get? Fate's education was hyper concentrated and focused on making her a useful tool for Precia, so it makes sense that it was rather abbreviated, but what about everyone else. The TSAB is usually presented as basically a Federation expy, but are most people walking around with third grade levels of reading and writing skills? (Math gets a pass, because it's used for magic, so they presumably focus on it a lot more.) What about history and civic knowledge? There's only so much time to teach stuff if you're trying to fit an entire primary education into k-3.

Vivio goes to school in Vivid and has normal classes. Of course she also particiates in martial arts tournaments for her age group, and it seems to be considered normal.

Well, that's not how I recall that fight ending. Is this a complete divergence from canon or are we about to see Nanoha pull a Starlight Breaker out of nowhere? ... Don't actually answer that, I'd rather see for my self, but I will be a bit disappointed if we don't get that scene where Fate is looking around for Nanoha only to spot an unexpected light and realize that life is about to get a lot more painful. I mean, is it even Nanoha if she doesn't Befriend™© people with maximum prejudice?

Ages are a bit saner by Strikers and Vivid.

Yeah, the ages are whack even by anime standards.

Yuuno getting authorization is unique to this manga version; in the series he was just on some expedition, and the survivor after the ship failed (or was attacked by Precia?) Of course that's odd too, but "orphan in some tribe" handwave.

Nanoha's "what do I do my life" angst seems more appropriate for at least 12, if not older, not 9.

(Also she's 9 at the beginning of 3rd grade, which is weird in a totally different way. Should be 8, or should be 4th grade.)

Amy is 16 and she's not even an obvious mage, let alone a human-WMD one. You can imagine that precocious WMDs at least need to be given social structure so they don't go off on their own, also they're useful.

On the flip side, the modern length of 'childhood' is historically unusual, and perhaps not necessary. Perhaps Midchilda is more into apprenticeships and part-time formal education rather than keeping teens out of the work force.

What canon does StrikerS disregard?

In A's, it's made explicitly clear that the Wolkenritter avoided killing anyone out of respect for Hayate. In StrikerS, most of Hayate's motivation for rising in the ranks so quickly is guilt over the people her knights killed in a vain attempt to save her. It's an easy detail to miss since it's only explicitly stated once briefly, but it completely changes Hayate's trajectory as a character, and it's that same character arc that resulted in Mobile Section 6 existing. So I get why they retconned it, because StrikerS doesn't happen otherwise.

Well, that's not how I recall that fight ending. Is this a complete divergence from canon or are we about to see Nanoha pull a Starlight Breaker out of nowhere? ...

This isn't the fight they had in the show, this is happening after the incident is resolved but before the "say my name" bit where Fate and Nanoha meet again. Which is to say, this fight was already a complete divergence from canon.

People missing out on lore from StrikerS is given, considering how boring that whole season(?) was.

StrikerS is the second best entry in the series after A's, the hell you're talking about?

Fate x Nanoha - Best Friends
Fate x Nanoha - Roomates
Fate x Nanoha - Bedmates
Nanoha x Fate - Top vs Bottom

Y'all already know how it is.
