It's nice to see Nico winning against her smarter kouhai occasionally. BTW Nico was, according to Nozomi, doing well in school before her meltdown with her idol troupe. And she was in shape, then, too. So Nico's not an idiot, or lazy, just extremely unmotivated. Maki is still smarter.
