^^^ I haven't kept up with this series since I finished watching the anime, but I'd assume it's just playing to the premise of the story. The prince charming in the game is, like everything else, upended when Catarina becomes the anti-villainess. (Not gonna deny that he's worst character though.)

As for the endgame, isn't the only solution the harem route? That way no one is satisfied! Fans across the globe will unite in frustration, bringing us all closer together! Doesn't that sound like a wonderful world? One united in our shared disgruntlement?

I don't know about HI since I've never played it but GI seems too mainstream for canon gay couples, even with lesbian fanart/noncanon shipping you'll see the usual down bad weeb that gets angry because another female from the same game is "stealing" his waifu.
