also, the "transfer student coming between the main couple" ended up working in our favour after the clarification of a few misunderstandings SO maybe we will be lucky with this trope too? i don't see this manga getting angsty and even if it looks like it might it most likely will just be caused by lack of communication between sora and her mom and then sora and ayaka as a result

I don't really think her mom will be as big an obstacle as we might expect. Partly because of narrative precedent (like others have mentioned, even the transfer student butting in turned out to be for cupid purposes only), but also because most of the issues mom would probably have (probably academic and motivational in nature) improved considerably throughout the story.

And anyway: We've made progress, curveball be damned!

Yet another anime romance story with a terrible parent. Oddly enough it usually seems to be the mom more than the dad.

So how can we make a parent as unlikable as possible? Introduce them late in the series, have them flip the child's world on its head, and for good measure, have them smack them. That'll teach 'em.
