Personally, when I see futa sans penis I take it as it's own thing unless explicitly told otherwise, I would not put them in the same category as trains women.

The fact that they are almost exclusively represented in porn is the problem. You can't leave aside porn, because that's 99%. If there were more honest, serious attempts like the one you mentioned, yes, it could be a positive thing, but there aren't.

I mean you can do stories with futa doing normal, everyday things but then their nature as futa don't really come into play. I suppose you could make it about how they might struggle or thrive with their nature.

^ I'm saying futanari, a term that is effectively lost in translation and interpreted to mean "normal woman, except with a dick" is presented as being in the same category as trans women (Hentai Foundry, for example, uses a catch-all "TG" tag that includes futanari, intersex, and transgender) and sets unrealistic expectations of how "cis" trans women look. Sort of like casting a cis actor to play a trans character, and why that's frowned upon.

It's called respectful intersex representation. The same way you would try to represent any other LGBTQ+ character in your work.

P.S. Futa sans penis? I'm not sure what you mean, isn't that a regular woman? Did you mean futa sans vulva?

^ Not buying the whole "actors can't act like people they're not" bullshit, sorry. That's literally what acting is. And you have to disregard the futanari porn when talking about representation, because almost all porn is not necessarily representative of the people depicted in it. I think what you're seeing isn't a problem with negative views of futanari in serious works, but people unable to make the distinction between porn and real life. Which is an entirely different problem, and affects people no matter their sex or orientation.

^ On the first point, just so you know, it's not a matter of actors acting like people they're not, it's actors being chosen to depict people they don't represent. Blackface is bad, right? Same thing, really, just more subtle.

On the second point, fair enough. I never claimed to have a problem with intersex representation outside of porn. There's still a problem, which is that the porn so vastly, overwhelming outnumbers anything else for futanari specifically in a way that simply doesn't happen anymore for any other portion of LGBTQ+. Yes, there's a lot of lesbian porn that's shitty and made for straight men, but the ratio of that to actual lesbian representation absolutely pales in comparison to futa porn versus any real intersex rep. That's why it's different. Most people will only encounter futanari porn because that's basically all there is.

^ You can't really compare a "straight" person portraying a member of the LGBT community to blackface. It's a completely different thing. One is an instantly-recognizable feature of someone's exterior body, and the other is the inside, which is the part that good actors excel at.

^ In my original mention I was specifically talking about cis actors portraying trans characters, which is in fact, in most cases, a visible trait on the exterior body, as you put it, and which was also relevant to the comparison I was making at the time regarding the expectation of trans women to look perfectly cis.

I make no comment about straight actors playing gay characters or what have you.
