^Well, they don't let the protagonists develop personality. Zabiko and Zabio had 0 personality in Last Encore, including their voices (which is a shame because Shaft picked great voice actors for both of them). Even Shirou barely had a personality.

Yeah that's the main problem with games where they expect or want you to self-insert. If they develop the character too much or give them too much of a personality then it's really hard for people to say "that's me" or "that's something I'd do". No comments on who's the "better" protagonist since I like both Hakuno and Gudako (Ritsuka Fujimaru) equally. As for this image, I find it rather cute.

Anyone not shipping ChikaRikoYou is a coward (but not actually).
