As someone who mostly knows Bandori from the fandom and the PICO anime (and, thus, knows the characters pretty well but not necessarily their relationships), I have no idea why this ship is as popular as it is (as I've never seen them interact in canon yet), but I think it's pretty cute just imagining how it works. Like, from their personalities, I feel like they'd have good chemistry. So, I ship it, even if I don't understand why everyone else ships it too.

^ There is almost zero chance of any yuri stuff happening in the show. What is happening is that the demon/deity Akane, the one with the pink hair, has some kind of history with Rikka the dark-haired girl, who doesn't remember any such thing for good reason. If Akane is interested, it is one-sided and unpleasantly coercive...she acts seductive, but it is unclear exactly what is going on and with four or so eps left and a bunch of stuff to solve, a yuri entanglement is highly unlikely for all kinds of reasons. They look hot together. That's it.

Not even really subtext.
