Am i the only one around here who does that?

Now i might just be the most diverse person around.

I enjoy :

  • Reading All sorts of manga. Yuri is one of my favorite genres.
  • Military stuff. Homeland defense is boring though.
  • Cars and bikes. Got more than 200cc and goes faster than 50 km/h? I want it.
  • Music. Genres include: Most Metal genres, Techno, Trance, Raggae, Some Classical pieces.

Am I alone in this craziness?

If not, tell me what you (whoever reads this pointless thread) enjoys doing.

Lots of straight guys read yuri. Heck, a lot of yuri porn is clearly aimed at straight guys. I would say reading shoujou would be more unusual.

Mmm... It's not really that unusual honestly. It's like how BL is read by a lot of straight girls. Though in GL, the ratio of boys and girl reading it seems a lot more balanced compared to BL. BL seems to be overwhelmed with a girl fanbase xD.

So yeah, nope you're most likely not the only guy.

Hmm, so maybe I'm not so crazy after all. Just mostly crazy. :P

Srsly though, Imagine a 1.85, 115 Kg Hardass with a Goat beard sitting with his Army Uniform hung on the wall behind him reading them Moe and cute Yuri mangas.

^^^^^^^^^ When i think of myself in third-Person, It looks quite amusing.

I'm a straight guy who likes yuri AND yaoi but not het. I have a bad case of het is ew in the anime fandom. I am crazy if you meet me in my natural habitat though so let's get along! Maybe...

Kind of agree with the sentiments here. Yuri seems to be pretty well balanced, BL... not so much, and the others are variably mixed and not mixed. I also tend to venture into the shoujou and josei territory looking for romances.

Lol'd

In my case
That dark shady dude who is always listening to metal during class and avoids talking with others. Gets home and goes right to the PC first page to load is this site to see if there is something new. Spending most of his team reading and re-reading the sweetest and cutest yuri mangas, sometimes during class he starts to remember those reads and goes full-on tomato-like blushing (God I hope nobody in class has noticed, I usually sit all the way back). He keeps the Recently Added page open on a tab frequently refreshing it waiting for a new manga/chapter to pop up while he is gaming or surfing the web...

We are all kinda crazy in our own ways...

You seem to really be caught up in gender role expectations. People like what they like, they shouldn't be prevented from liking things because "that's not what a macho guy should like" or "feminine girls shouldn't be into hard shonen like JoJo". It's silly.

Basically you're the guys in the bar from Tangled.

I'm a straight male and I also read yuri and some trap (BL doesn't really get my attention but there's something really exciting about trap shrugs).

In my case, I started reading yuri thanks to touhou and then started branching out nowadays I read yuri more for the romance and fluffy stuff (some erotic every now and then is pretty nice though) while I can't really care for normal romance manga since it felt kind of 'soulless'. I don't know how to really explain it.

I am the same for yuri, there tends to be decent character development alongside the romance. So nice.
That's actually a pretty good explanation of het romances. I pretty much stick with yuri for my romances nowadays since het's are just.... the genre in general is just aweful. Not really sure how to say it but... it's U.G.L.Y.

We're all in the same boat I guess. Het is now just...bleh. On that note, we could use some more romantic, unforced down your throat, nonmelodrama yuri.

I basically agree - but i wonder if things like 'Mei No Naisho' and 'Otome wa Boku ni Koishiteru' count as Het romance or yuri lol? I mean if its a guy crossdressing as a girl - and acting as such, for the whole anime/manga - to all intents it looks like yuri - even if you know its not really..

On the subject of straight guys reading yuri- id guess its the most common demographic.

Let me pull some guestimates from thin air-

70% ish male readers - (outside of japan - i think a lot more men read manga than women?) 90-95% of whom are straight (gay guys would have the least interest in yuri?)

30% female readers - 60% of whom are straight ? (Individual lesbians have more likelihood of reading yuri than a straight woman- but they are ofcourse outnumbered).

Those are total estimates on limited understandings- and id be happy to except any modifications to my misunderstandings lol.
