After reading Tonari no Robot, I keep expecting manga AIs to feel more alien, and I'm always disappointed that they act no different from human beings.

I mean it makes sense that she was a far more alien example of an android because she's an experimental AI that is meant to develop her own personality based on her inhuman perception of the world and not a robot programmed to behave as close to human as possible.

It's not entirely about the actual risk level. It's also about the perception . . . and reality . . . that you have some control over that risk. People like to feel in control of what's going on. If you drive a car and don't want to die, you can drive defensively; it won't necessarily work, but careful drivers do have far fewer accidents. If your car drives itself the risk level is what it is--high or low, you are helpless to make a difference. Blank Mage was just saying that robot risk leaves you less in control than people risk, and I'd say it's true--we've evolved to estimate and counter people risk; robot risk, not so much.

The problem is that humans in general are extremely bad at risk assessment.

You're probably right. Despite her mentions of being an early model, this is clearly a finished product designed to imitate human personality. Still, you'd think in a world where such capable AI has existed for some time, more would be different than just "there are sexbots now". But this is a common problem in sci-fi, where the author wants some new technology for some very specific narrative purpose, and then fails to think through the large-scale implications.

So there are Sexbots and War bots... but nothing inbetween? I mean I guess I could see them having been programmed with useful skills outside those areas but...

I think that one of the biggest problems they have had with AI is that they (google and fb) have them run loose on the internet. In a sense, AI are like small children and teenagers (I heard that the one that got to twitter went really bad because they let it interact with people)
I think you probably have to create a limited environment, as in, make them a person from scratch.
Imagine a sexbot like this that was given yuri to read xD
Anyway, since AI ARE intelligent, they do develop a critical conscience, but you would have to guide them to it.
If I had a bot like this, I wouldn't let her go anywhere near the internet until I was sure her personality is as adorkable as Leeza's

And take away jobs from real human beings? Currently, robots only do stuff that's either too hard, too dangerous or too repetitive/monotone for a human to do, and also only when it's cheaper to use a robot. Sex industry and military engagements would qualify for being offloaded to robots as soon as it's economically viable. Especially if we are talking about humanoid robots. Warbots would certainly benefit from being able to use all the weapons, vehicles and infrastructure that's already in place for human soldiers, as well as being able to fit onto human-sized door frames.
Sexbots would benefit from having humanoid shape too, obviously.
For most other areas, using humanoid bodies would be too expensive and not needed. For example, why make a robot car driver if you can fit all the necessary logic circuits into the car itself? Or why make a room of robot bean counters/pencil pushers when you can just put incoming paper documents into the scanner and have the rest of document flow in electronic form governed by a mainframe?

It's a stretch, but there's always Mage and Demon Queen. But I'm in love with it so I'm biased and jumping at the opportunity to link to it lol

Thanks for the link. This story is greaat XD

Cute story. Very lewd tho.

Anw I truly think that it's legit to claim that drawing too many fuked up porns will give you a fear of having sex.

Robot might kill me because a pressure sensor was gummed up and the welcome home hug contained 10000 newtons of hydraulic force.

It's like people being scared of self-driving cars (or trains etc): nearly all car accidents are happening because of human error; same for trains. Yet we are far more scared of some mechanical/Ai failure, which ultimately would be or will be far less likely ;)

Blank Mage was just saying that robot risk leaves you less in control than people risk, and I'd say it's true--we've evolved to estimate and counter people risk; robot risk, not so much.

I'd say the opposite is true: People are uncomfortable because people SUCK at estimating and countering risk. Humans are TERRIBLE at judging probability. That's why it is so easy to manipulate people on that front (and why people get angry if they see a 90% probability and fail 10% of the time - people see 90% and expect 99%)

Yes, in a vacuum the driving car does allow the driver fewer decisions, and thus less control. But the baseline risk is still below that of a human driver, regardless how careful they drive. Meaning the overall risk is much, much lower.

The human just feels less in control about it, because of the error in perception when it comes to probability.

I'd say the real issue with sexbots is one of slavery. If the bot has an actual mind, buying one would quite simply be slavery. If the bot doesn't, it's nothing to love, it's a thing.

This reminds me of Plastic Memories.
FEELS.
Human x android love...
Can they live happily together? Leeza is an old model... don't tell me she has a 9-year lifespan with some weird AI coding problems that turns her into merciless killer just like that anime...
Having said that, I think I should just enjoy the oneshot and better not think too much.

Hopefully we won't have to wait very long for real life sexbots to happen.

For some reason... I want a continuation for this doujin... Where Eiko 'use' Leeza's main function... That would've been great right? Reading this was really worth it

"Technology is usually developed either for war or for sex."

Truer words were never spoken

Theres a book about this, kinda by Peter Nowak
"Sex, Bombs, and Burgers: How War, Pornography, and Fast Food Have Shaped Modern Technology". Was an interesting read.

In other news, I cannot unsee their long, thin necks. It bothers me now.

the start is quite awesome , tech if often done best in wars and for sexual purposes.

Right now we have sexual robots already but still go beep boop to you when you TURN HER ON.
At least in 100 years from now they probably would be like in the manga , acting like a real human.
