I think there must be some misunderstanding (probably the "I don't want to be just friend" part). Maybe she just missed the confession all together.

But is it just me or back when I was Yuzumori-san age, all of the girls in my class understand about sex, birds and bees already? Well we didn't understand homosexual, and tended to think it as guy soul trapped in a girl body and vice versa. Then boyfriend or girlfriend tends to be a bragging right. I know when I was 9 or 10 the whole concept of sex was kind of vague, but generally something icky that I didn't waste much time thinking about. Boyfriends and girlfriends were more familiar concepts, but as you say, more of a status symbol than anyone you actually did anything special with.

Well, the manga has been focusing on the moral/ethical side of it, but the idea that Yuzumori herself might reject the idea is a new one. Not that I believe that, I'm still willing to bet Yuzu is angry over the phrasing, not the confession. Even so, it'd be quite a twist to just say 'ew, never talk to me again', The End.
