But like I don't think I can really outright cheer for Kuruko anymore after this volume. Like she never was a good guy by any stretch of the imagination, but she's the protagonist. It's like in any Gundam with Char Aznable in it; I can't really cheer for him after what he did to Garma.

A protagonist that doesn't share the usual traits of the typical "hero"?
And that's what antiheroes do, they fuck shit up. They can be cowards, greedy, murderers, they treat people like dirt, etc; they are either likable or detestable.
When you read Murcielago, you either support Komouri [more or less] regardless of what she does or if it's too much then, if you're still reading, then you're mostly reading to know what happens, not particularly "cheering her on" or anything like that.
But yeah, that's the catch with writing antiheroes.
When you write a character like that, if you want a character that does unconventional unheroic traits to be liked, you have to somehow work it so that they are. But likability isn't really the main concern with antiheroes lol
