Komichi seeming unbothered and even encouraging Erika to date another girl is just more Komichi being herself, she's not really the jealous type, and lets not forget this whole arc started because Komichi had no clue about romantic love. I would also say she probably was bothered, but as we seen before Komichi does have some self esteem isuues and doesn't like to dwell on negative feelings but she looks pretty relieved after Erika said she turned down the other girl.

Crazy that I was able to follow the threads of the chapter while assuming the entire time that the short haired blonde girl was a new character, but when I opened the discussions, saw what people were saying, and reread the chapter with Erika in mind as the short haired girl, the conversation seemed to flow even more naturally. Needless to say I’m FREAKING out. PLEASE don’t be Erika. What the fuck is happening to our yuri ship, I thought they were in love??? What is this thing about performing breakup with the girl you Kissed on a whole ass Ferris wheel? Actually, what the fuck had been happening the past 20 chs, even before the time skip. I feel like ever since the play/theater arc started I’ve completely lost the emotional thread of every single character despite reading every chapter closely. It’s like despite the dialogue being written in plain English, and the words making sense on their own, when they are strung together I begin to lose the content of what is being said. I admit I have no idea what Erika and Komichi were talking about on the Ferris wheel. It’s like Medalist official translation all over again.

If we assume Komichi and Erika have indeed broken off, wouldn’t it be odd for Erika to then exclaim how much she doesn’t want to show the school that they’re not together anymore? Put another way, why would she cling to a projected image of them dating if they aren’t in actuality? That seems too disingenuous, too clout-chasing, for it to be true to Erika’s character. It doesn’t read right to me, so I don’t think that assumption is right.

One detail against the short haired girl being Erika: The edge of Erika’s eyelashes are drawn darkly, and usually colored in. She doesn’t have many lower eyelashes, if at all. The edge of the short haired girl’s eyelashes are light, and not colored in. Rather it’s suggested using two parallel lines, something we have Never seen on Erika. Additionally, she has a ton of lower eyelashes.

One detail for the short haired girl being Erika: who else wears pants at this school?

However I wouldn’t put it past Erika to have changed the fashion trends of the school. She probably made butches come out of the floodgates.

As for why this non-Erika would protest against a breakup, we have to take a step back and remember that at this moment, Komichi and Erika are the school sweethearts. They’re are essentially J-Drama stars right now, and probably reached celebrity-hood amongst the girls. Who would want their kamioshis, their OTP, to break up?

Overall, I believe that this girl is not Erika. If I know one thing about Hito it is his obsession with the female form—every detail, hair, eye structure, nose structure, expression, is carefully considered and executed to convey an exact femininity he wants each girl to exude. They are wholly unique in their form, the visual metaphor for their complex and complete individuality. He would never suddenly give Erika new eyes.

Also preferring a different haircut is one thing but calling it ugly is bizzare. I personally like her new look and think it's consistent with her character. Then again I like the prince tomboy/masc look in general.

Sigh honestly I do think Erika could be the short haired girl. When Komichi said, “If we are IN the drama club, the only way we can…”, she implied that Erika is still in the drama club, or at the very least participating in its activities. This means that Erika probably didn’t go transfer away and fuck off. Perhaps butch Erika is our reality now. As a femxfem enjoyer who loved the way those two looked side by side, this is an L. But I’m sure I’ll grow used to the aesthetics. I’m more concerned with why the author is destabilizing the yuri relationship we’ve watched furtively grow, and if this will just be another unsatisfying yuri ship.

Though upon reflection, Komichi seemed very troubled that Erika was confessed to, so we know they mutually reciprocate each other’s love. For all we know the breakup line is throwaway, evoking the idea of performativity in their relationship before we head into an arc about how they navigate being pulled in opposite directions over the future of their relationship—one consideration being the love between them that they don’t want to give up, the other being the fact that they are public facing figures who caused the fabric of society to be torn apart by lesbian pda, and it’s on them to fix this.

The author was deliberately ambiguous, implying that Erika went away for 2 chs and then bringing her back with brand new hair. Ambiguity leads to momentary (or not) confusion because we operate on incomplete information. Not only is confusion the authorial intent here, it’s natural that people will be confused when basic facts and explanations are omitted, especially after a timeskip.

It's not one of her close family members since we've seen them all. Erika, Neko, Ai and Usagihara are around too. Maybe part of the reason why the festival has been skipped for now is to set up this "mystery" as the rest of Komichi's classmates gradually show up except one who turns out to have moved after the festival for some reason. It might be interesting.

I feel like it’s been longer? Can’t really tell cause black and white but when they were on the date it seems the trees were still full of leaves but we know it was in autumn October-November. After the time skip it’s snowing so it could’ve been a few months. Assuming the earliest being October, snow fall would usually be around December-February which would be like a 2-4 month time skip. Chapter 67 being the reference for it at the minimum being October even up to chapter 72 it’s probably still early October because the oranges are still green. Then in chapter 74 they go to a flower field til chapter 77 which are probably cosmo flowers so probably around mid October. Chapter 80 is probably within a few day of receiving the letter and since the date wasn’t delayed with Komichi staying the night the date probably took place mid-late October at the earliest and early November at the latest. So yeah it’s probably been a few of months.

That chapter felt so vague about something that might or might not happen.

The whole time skip, talking about mistresses, bringing up the topic of breaking up, Erika was here all along even though I thought she was missing due to 89. Not surprising people are confused right now because I sure am lol.
