This is such a convincing portrayal of someone who has it really bad. Somehow despite yuri being fundamentally a romance genre, I feel like that kind of thing is pretty rare. It makes me realize that maybe there’s a bit of a formula for this kind of thing that even many really good series seem to follow. I’m really enjoying this slow meditation on what it looks and feels like to catch big feelings for someone. The little daydream she had was particularly nice.

Also, in the little subgenre of rental girlfriend stories, it’s usually quite a slow burn with the premise of a professional developing personal feelings over time as they get to know someone or because they’re just sooooo good. It’s really refreshing to see her take a cynical professional attitude and then all of a sudden just get hit by huge feelings for reasons that can’t be fully explained.

Also the art and execution is so good. The little frisson when they hold hands, the way that Reina immediately cums when she imagines sui-chan doing things to her and it’s depicted by a cut to afterwards, and her reflecting on it and blushing incandescently. It’s such a treat.

I think Touma has a real talent for the intense feelings of pining and wanting someone and how it's not all flower petals and sparkles. It's embarrassing, it's intimate, it makes you feel gross sometimes, and it is easy to fall into an almost delusional state over the emotional high you get from thinking about and being with that person.

It's one of the strengths of Some Prefer Nettles as well

"A... friend" Sui-chan definitely liked a woman, if they dated, if she never had the courage to confess, etc. We don't know, but it's pretty obvious that was the reason she rented a girlfriend.
Either way, the masturbation scene was amazing, I am always looking for them, I wish it was more common in the genre.
