The original was 1960, and starred some of the big action film stars of the day. It was basically a western remake of the even older Kurosawa film Seven Samurai, made in 1954.

Seven Samurai is legit awesome and you can see elements that eventually resurfaced in films like Star Wars in it.

Never watched any of Star Wars so no idea.

Still will watch Seven Samurai.

Kurosawa is great, although admittedly I've only seen Seven Samurai and Ran. The latter is a Japanese adaption of Shakespeare's King Lear and has some amazing scenes, particularly with the king/lord character.

It was also a partial influence on Genesis Climber MOSPEADA (aka Robotech: The New Generation outside Japan) for us old folks that remember it.
