Honestly, the worst part of 2020 was the flooding of normies getting into anime, which led to the frequency of the comments you mention to skyrocket. Fortunately, while not exactly the last bastion, touhou yuri still remains a comparatively niche thing, with a community that knows better than starting flame wars over the topic of preferred ships.
