It doesn't feel like "mid-autumn" in my neck of the woods but I've seen sillier excuses to have a party.

I get cold pretty easily, so if anything, it feels more like it's mid-winter already.

But the mid-autumn festival is celebrated based on the lunar calendar instead of the Gregorian calendar, so the date might not always make sense.

Interesting! I was just reading about it a bit since that's the first time I'd heard of it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mid-Autumn_Festival

I sort of just see Adachi as a kinda sad cute puppy, but Miyagi has all these spiky edges

I think Sendai has the perfect view of Miyagi as a stray black cat. She takes a while to warm up to someone but even once she does she'll still bite them from time to time. I've dealt with a few stray cats at my house over the years, they seem drawn to my place because I have a few other cats. And I swear the one that took the longest to become friendly with me was the only black one that's ever come around. Even once it got to the point where he would let me pet him he would occasionally get ornery and claw or try to bite me.

I don't usually celebrate these things, but I got roped into attending a mid-autumn festival party

That sounds fun, have a good time. The thought of it being mid-autumn is funny to me as it's still in the 80s and 90s where I am.

I don't recall Shimamura seeing Adachi as a burden.

She loved her in her own way. Even admitting to herself at one point that she didn't think she could be with anybody else or that anyone else would put up with her.

I hope "Miyagi" is on your short list for names if any other ornery stray cats that try to adopt you.

And I've also encountered that type of cat that is very selective on when and how much it'll let you pet them and they are definitely Miyagi-like. Sometimes no petting is allowed at all and you'll get a bite if you try (like her pushing Sendai away and kicking her shin/stepping on foot. Sometimes petting is acceptable...but only for just a bit and then you're getting bit!

Ooh boy, you have no idea how ridiculous I am. I already have a plan of someday getting another black cat and a Maine Coon and naming them Miyagi and Sendai. I currently have two 3-year-old females, one who is ridiculously in love with me, so it will be about 10 years or so until I can implement this plan lol. And yes, I am a crazy cat person.

I don't know the first thing about cats, since I love dogs and own one, so I guess if I ever get another one, I have to name it Hazuki or something.

I've also heard that people that are cat-like in nature prefer dogs and vice versa, but there's no way that's true, right?

Yowch, no takers on my Shimamura/Adachi conspiracy theories eh? I've only read the manga, so their relationship has probably evolved. Maybe burden's the wrong word? She just thinks of her as like a little sister she has to take care of. Which is fine, she doesn't resent her for that, but she doesn't see it as a source of strength either.

Do you guys think even if Miyagi wasn't so insecure, she would still be a spiky lil guy? I dunno, I just prefer to read the story as that she wouldn't be, because I like the idea of Miyagi being touch-starved and Miyagi standing in Miyagi's way like a true dumbass. But maybe you never stop being a spiky lil guy, even if you're a happy spiky lil guy, y'know?

This isn't really the case either, but if you haven't read passed the manga there's not much to say; although even at the current place of the manga, I wouldn't agree with your statement. A large part of what stands out about Adachi to Shima are those quirks she has. They likely wouldn't be together, or as close, without those quirks. Shima says as much a few times, directly and indirectly.

I talked to your other cats and they say they very much want a couple of younger sisters. Think about all the sad cuties waiting to be adopted! :(

Well I'm very cat-like in nature and prefer...both! But I prefer having cats because they're more independent and better handle being alone while I'm gone.

Yeah other than during Adachi's infamous rant and maybe a couple of other times, Shimamura never has any negative thoughts about Adachi. I do want to say the thought she now has 2 younger sisters has crossed her mind, but I can't specifically recall it.

I think Miyagi would be much more agreeable to displays of affection if she wasn't plagued by worries that Sendai might get tired of her and leave some day. I think that holds her back a lot.

I know I'm said it before in this thread but it applies here too: Thank God Miyagi/Adachi found Sendai/Shimamura, because ain't nobody else putting up with their shit! (affectionate)

Nobody tell me what time it is right now. I don't want to know.

Good morning from the Western Hemisphere! :D
Hope you're not staying up all night just to work on Shuukura translations!

Thinking back to when I read this in the MTL, it might have been this chapter that made me first think "wow they're finally making tons of progress! Maybe soon they'll be ready to admit their feelings!"
But of course we know, many chapters later, that they're still dancing around admitting their feelings! Shuukura is just masterful at writing minor relationship progress in a way that feels like major progress. That drip-feed of progress keeps you coming back for more without feeling like things are dragging. Well...most of the time. There have been a few occasions where I wish the author would get on with it a bit.

Well obviously it would have to be a borzoi, you can adopt a rescued one for around $450. Yes I've looked into it.
I've never heard that before but it could make sense. I've been told I'm dog-like with my use of affection and praise. I don't think it was meant in a bad way lol.

"wow they're finally making tons of progress! Maybe soon they'll be ready to admit their feelings!"

It really is fun reading these earlier chapters knowing where the story is now. The amount of progress they've made has simultaneously been a lot and also barely any. While their physical relationship has increased by leaps and bounds they're still just as emotionally stunted as they were in these chapters. I'd really like to see Miyagi's inner thoughts on her actual feelings for Sendai but the girl seems to avoid them like the plague.

I had never heard of a Borzoi before Shuukura and started seeing it everywhere after that (Baader-Meinhof phenomenon in action).
I was surprised to see what it looked like when I looked it up because Miyagi and Sendai both talked about the breed as being elegant and graceful or something like along those lines. I mean...yeah I can see how the dog's body can be described like that, but their face can look pretty goofy with that long snout:

Okay, I feel like you picked a particularly unflattering picture there. I've seen others and they're usually pretty gorgeous looking. But who knows, maybe this is actually a hint as to how Sendai really looks. She may actually have a really big schnoz and Miyagi is just into that. After all, the only description we really have of Sendai is how Miyagi sees her.

Ehhh I trust Miyagi that Sendai's pretty. But it is funny to think of her as having a big nose and that's secretly why Miyagi compared her to a Borzoi.

I chose an image that would highlight the Borzoi's nose, which you'll see if you give it a google as most of the pictures show Borzoi with long snouts.

This one is more flattering but still has a big ole honkin nose:

This is now a Borzoi thread, apparently. :D

Borzoi really do be the weird, goofy horses of the doggo world.

Amawashi Part 78 is up: https://amawashigroup.wordpress.com/2024/09/20/part-78-what-i-want-to-do-with-miyagi-and-what-miyagi-wants-to-do-ii

It's a good thing Sendai's brain eventually adjusts to her lovesickness and doesn't have too many strange thoughts like "my hand would detach and find it's way to Miyagi".
These silly thoughts are a clever way for the author to show she's in love though.

"A short-sleeved blouse hung from a hanger on the wall of my room—it was Miyagi’s."

Lmao, Sendai had her own personal Miyagi Shrine in her room. I love the thought of her kneeling and praying to it "please let me kiss you as much as I want the next time I see you."

"Plus, even if I chose to stay here, I couldn’t picture a future where Miyagi walked alongside me."

I'd love to be able to give this Sendai a view of her future with her not-roommate Miyagi.

This is so unfair, Japanese people get so much cool content. Just found this on the Shuukura Discord. I guess it's an ad for a PV but obviously can't understand it. If nothing else there's some pretty cool visuals in it.

That PV's the whole reason I found out about ShuuKura last year, lol. The new Gundam anime at the time (Witch from Mercury) featuring these two VAs had just finished airing. I'm not at my PC right now, but iirc they're just reciting the lines from the first chapter.

So here's the Discord I mentioned. I just figured out tonight you have to read the rules and hit the little check mark to "unlock" the other channels. It's pretty active and seems like a fun community.

I perused it a bit and it seemed...weirdly hostile to translations? Idk what's up with that but I'll probably not post there much after seeing users talk about not wanting people to post links to translations for a freely available webnovel that has no official translation.
Do they only want people who understand Japanese in that server? Because being Japanese fluent is the only way for the English-speaking community to enjoy Shuukura without reading a translation.
