If you consider a witch's familiar in western fantasy to be a slave, then yes. Shikigami are more or less an identical concept.
This hit all the feels for me. Love the dynamic and the ethical quandaries mmmmmm
Reading this story feels weird knowing what we do now about Ran's life before becoming a shikigami (also the fact that this artist has drawn Ran cheating on Yukari with Yuuma).
This feels like the first few chapters of a longer saga, but I liked it.
