Much like decent amount of yuri LN, a good place to end it would be in Season 2 equivalent where- oh, hm, dunno how to make spoiler box here. Let's go with Volume 5.

The anime was a bit of a disappointment. It cut out a lot of fun stuff like Nelia wanting to make Komari her maid, the production quality was pretty shit, and it reduced a lot of good moments so they didn't really hit much (the entire finale for instance)

The manga is over, but the mangaka is still drawing a bunch of bonus sequel and prequel stories. There's a brilliant one released to celebrate the first screening of the anime, that's about Marcille and Falin going to see a human theatre adaptation of an elven book series and it's all an allegory for why you shouldn't be a "manga only" snob.
Also there's something to the whole two girls watching a romantic play together thing, if you've got the yuri goggles on.
