Thanks for the correction. It's listed with both Official and doujinshi as that's the only meaningful way we have of noting derivative works. In the future these comments might look silly, as I expect the "doujinshi" category to be replaced with something else.

i'd kinda forgotten that their characters have changed somewhat, or at least toned down, since those days. ngl, kinda miss thirsty af karin and (even more) gremlin kasumi.

I like how in nijiyon Shizuku apparently has a crush on Ai

i guess the "canonical" ships were still up in the air at that point? you can also see hints of kanata/shizuku and karin/kasumi, which were kinda a thing for a while there, rip

I keep hearing people say the characters are really different between these versions — Nijiyon, game, anime — where I just see mild changes in viewpoint and circumstances. Maybe I'm just more used to viewing characters from multi-media franchises as a gestalt.

well, the basic character traits remain consistent enough...there are changes in emphasis that probably come from different writers working in different mediums. to me, lanzhu and shioriko come off pretty differently in the game vs. the anime (or at least, they do at first) but as you say, that's in part because of the very different stories the characters are put into.

Exactly. The game has a school idol infrastructure that's not wholly focused on the Love Live, so Shioriko's sister-induced school idol trauma played out differently; anime!Lanzhu came into a NijiGaku that didn't have her childhood friend as a school idol and student council president (and hit her friendlessness despair point earlier).

But back to Nijiyon — I love the concert report! Seeing the call and responses, the capsule reviews of everybody's solos; so great, and so nice to look back on these girls just starting out, from a time when their second anime season is close to wrapping up.

EDIT: Following up on 4.5 — boy, just when I figured Nijigasaki shipping had settled down, we sure launch some ShizuMia, don't we?

Nijiyon is still the best Niji media. Such a shame it ended.

Cool to finally see Yuu show up in these yonkoma - I wasn't sure if they were going to add her at all.

Odaiba Tokimeki Stamp Rally was supposed to be canon to the anime.

I should mention that a TV anime series of Nijiyon shorts has been announced for early 2023. It's unclear how it's going to be structured, since Yu, Shioriko, Lanzhu, and Mia are on the promo picture we've gotten — it may be an adaptation of scattered existing strips or a complete new season.

But in other news, I just realized that Season 1 #43, "Old Maid", is a reference to a streamed event from before the game even launched, where Kasumi, Setsuna, and Karin's actors had to play a bluffing game called "Little Red Riding Hood Does Not Sleep"; in particular, Tomoriru (Setsuna) kept saying "Who knows?" with a perfect poker face whenever asked for information.
