I don't think it's too surreal, they do have a really close relationship in the side stories on DDLCPlus (Which is also an AU that happend in the game)

Man, I really want to replay DDLC, especially with Plus released. I bought it the day it released but I'm not sure my heart can really handle playing the game again.
