@Clueless 1 Funny enough, you could argue the surfboard is “medieval” (although not in the usual European sense), since the Polynesians were likely rocking those things long before Europe’s Middle Ages (which is generally what Medieval is implied to refer to). The artificially colored fruity drinks and whatever syrup Lysithea is pouring on her ice are probably a bit more modern, though. Hell, if we’re referring specifically to real-world technology and aesthetics (since fantasy is far more nebulous to define in those terms), the picture is far more modern than it is medieval.

Also, I headcanon Dorothea being adopted into House von Hresvelg, because of all she's done for the Empire, and Edelgard just loves her. I can just imagine El going full mom-zilla on the wedding plans.

^ Looks like Tomoe's gripping it tight enough to cause it to distort shape. I'm sure when she feels like letting go (grab a good book) it would go back to its normal shape. You can see what should be the cheek of the right one being pulled up. Other than that, yeah, it's not huge, but it looks like it'd be nicely-shaped if it wasn't being groped.

^...Edo period is the one that ended with the Meiji Restoration in 1868 you know. Looks mostly like IJA uniform circa World Wars (aka War Crime City) to me.

^Japanese imperial military police uniform is fairly similar on checking, and they go back to 1880- but I think you are right, its probably 50ish year after that- and not sure if its police or army or what. The thing like a night stick makes me think police tho- it might actualy BE those imperial police - just not from that far back.

^ahem. Now the military police forces (the Army's Kempeitai and the Navy's Tokkeitai) did, naturally enough, have uniforms similar to their associated service branches; they were also absolute assholes who made the Gestapo and NKVD look like pretty swell dudes so, yeah.

^That's basically the standard Army uniform of the period with due branch-insignia differences.
And the jitte was the characteristic truncheon of Edo period police, it poofed from authority arsenals with Meiji. Imperial Japanese cops just had batons and swords plus guns for certain special units.

The military police of course had far more leeway in hardware but you can pretty much assume sword here - compare.

As for the rep, well. You know what a jolly bunch of murdering rapists the IJ military was 'round those days? Well these dipshits were their very own internal Gestapos except with even less oversight than usual for period totalitarian terror police (not in the least because the country was essentially run by a dysfunctional military junta that couldn't agree on anything) so, yeah. Historians tend to use phrases like "extremes of torture and repression" around them.
