The thing with Sumin x Seju is that their passionate love happened years ago, when BOTH invested in the relationship. Now it's different. Seju is still all about Sumin, to the point where she can't imagine her life without her, but Sumin is all about Sungji. She WANTS to do things with Sungji. She changed, she found happiness again. Something she didn't have for a long time. She even started to like plushies - which is kinda cute, really. She feels safe, something she need and want. Would she go to Seju in the middle of the night if she though Seju was angry with her? Before cheating, yes. Now, no. She did that with Sungji though. When she was in Japan, she thought about... Sungji. She apologized over and over again for what she did, pretty much begged to be together again. She's working her ass off for Sungji. And Pporonge loves her - is she the only person he doesn't bite? ;p
I agree her relationship with Seju was more showed, via flasbhacks. But I think it's because we needed to find out about her past. Who she used to be, what changed her, how much it all changed her, how she slowly started to going back to who she used to be before all the tragedy and years of living in toxic circle. Seju and her borther's actions changed her into a little monster, a cold person who refused to feel and treated sex as casual thing that didn't matter too much until she met someone she thought she could be with, but no one stood by her side long enough for her to open up because they were losing patience with her so at some point it felt like she stopped caring at all. Sungji is different. Sumin was unable to seduce her even with drama speech (chp 11). What she was offered was... comfort. Something she didn't have for who knows how long. Sumin clung to it and from that moment she started waking up. Sungji showed her life is more than just sex, it can and should be happy. And she's still by her side, even after the incident. Sumin is opening up to her now. Slowly, but after so many years it's hard to tell everything at once. Seju knows it all because she's a huge part of what happened to Sumin. She was one of the main players in this game. Just look at how they communicate right now. It's not warm at all. Sumin is all business to her. Short orders, no normal conversations. I actually can't remember when was the last time they had a normal conversation that wasn't connected to their game. The dynamics in both relationships are completely different. Both Seju and Sungji want Sumin. Sungji told Seju it's not the end, she won't give up. She told her face to face she pity her. And Sumin made promises to Sungji - to never leave her side again being the most important one. So we have 2 people who don't want to give up on each other (living here and now, thinking about the future) and 1 person who seems to be unable to let go (living in the past). Seju is the one who needs to heal or at least start healing. Sumin is already doing it and went quite far with this process.

I appreciate your analogy, there are a lot of points to discuss, but let's take it from this approach:

  • what is it for Sungji to fight this hard, and to forgive a person who betrayed her 2 days after she gave her a promise ring ! (ah, I know that first love is sweet and all.. but is it love what Sungji is fighting for.. or there is more into her stubbornness ) ..
  • mmmhm, well Sungji as well was mad that Sumin did not fight enough, ch59 (last scene) and ch67 (Sungji was angry at her team leader for the above reason)

the crazy part is: Do you know how many times Sumin said I love you just in ch69 (I will spare you from the count)
5 times !!! , what did Sungji say: "it feels strange.. I feel strange" just as much

in no case that I said Sumin was not honest, but it is not the earnest love she wanted, does not feel like falling of a cliff if she let go.. you see, she promised to stay by Sungji's side, but promises shouldn't be put in the same sentence with Sumin!

I agree, she is trying to do the right thing, I admire that in some of her current actions, but is it enough for a sustainable relationship?
(btw, she still deceives Sungji.. just remember the third condition she gave to Seju in ch77, and compare it to what she told Sungji in the kitchen)
......
about the communication between Sumin and Seju, have you noticed that both of them communicate even without words, simplest example can be found in ch79, and when they do, my god it is full of emotions!
both of Seju and Sumin live in the past.. yes, lately you do not see a flash back, but please explain to me why Sumin insists on buying the house ?
.....
Sumin and Sungji is not bad to be honest, it is off in some areas, that other commenters and I went through extensively.. and it will be Sungji who takes the step, not Sumin in that matter

-> I remembered this bizarre thing from last chapter, Seju told Sungji clearly that she is not playing with this relationship and she is still in the fight, but then Sungji's reaction is just weird !! she is like, okay I let you stay if you let me pity you !!
the hell is that !

About the ring - Sumin was there and experienced the same. She doesn't really care about the ring.

Sungji has every right to feel strange after what she saw. She did broke up with Sumin and then let her back, which is completely different from what Sumin did, but Sumin's case was also different because she was attacked by Seju's brother which made it impossible for her to ever truly come back. It started her change.

About the house, there's this very interesting thing... Sumin could not live in her parents house because she was too attached to them. Current house is different - she's not so attached to Seju as she was to her parents. Buying it from her would cut their relationship for good. We also have no idea how many times they did that out there and not at Seju's. What we do know is that Sungji started healing Sumin out there - the very first comfort she was offered was out there.

If Sungji will break up with Sumin again, Sumin will end up broken - we've seen that already. Sungji made it very clear she's not giving up, it even shocked Seju - twice. To me Sungji always felt a bit possessive, but in a good and funny way. She's like... marking her terrain and Sumin is a part of it. She wants Seju to know that.

Would she go to Seju in the middle of the night if she though Seju was angry with her? Before cheating, yes. Now, no. She did that with Sungji though.

When Sungji was angry at her about her cheating with Seju, she didn't go to Sungji in the middle of night though.

When she was in Japan, she thought about... Sungji.

While Sungji was busy dating Dawoon. lol

She apologized over and over again for what she did, pretty much begged to be together again.

Really? I remember she just apologized once only.

She's working her ass off for Sungji.

What did she do for Sungji? I think she was working her ass off for Seju's company.

And Pporonge loves her - is she the only person he doesn't bite? ;p

I don't think so. Pporonge hasn't met Seju, Nami, Dawoon, ... yet. She might be one of a million people he likes.

And she's still by her side, even after the incident.

Sungji did that for herself. She's failed to move on with Dawoon.

Sumin is opening up to her now. Slowly, but after so many years it's hard to tell everything at once.

We don't know if it is hard or not because Sumin never bothered to try to tell Sungji yet.

Just look at how they communicate right now. It's not warm at all. Sumin is all business to her. Short orders, no normal conversations. I actually can't remember when was the last time they had a normal conversation

Like in this very latest chapter, "Have you eaten your breakfast?", "Don't forget to eat your lunch.", ... ?

She told her face to face she pity her.

For being so hotter, prettier and way richer than her. lol

And Sumin made promises to Sungji - to never leave her side again being the most important one.

She made that promise to Seju too. Her promise is breakable though.

That would be pointless. She had to let her think about it. She messed up, she knew that, it wasn't the time.

On the stairs.
In Japan.
After she came from Japan.
Before Seju x Assassin.

She's working her ass off for Sungji.

What did she do for Sungji? I think she was working her ass off for Seju's company.

She did everything Sungji ever wanted her to do and... she enjoyed it. She's still doing it. And she wants more.

And Pporonge loves her - is she the only person he doesn't bite? ;p

I don't think so. Pporonge hasn't met Seju, Nami, Dawoon, ... yet. She might be one of a million people he likes.

I doubt he ever will.

And she's still by her side, even after the incident.

Sungji did that for herself. She's failed to move on with Dawoon.

And how do you see her even being able to move on in less than a week? Impossible.

Sumin is opening up to her now. Slowly, but after so many years it's hard to tell everything at once.

We don't know if it is hard or not because Sumin never bothered to try to tell Sungji yet.

Yes, it is. Personal experience here, with group therapy.

My mom used to tell me to eat my lunch too. But she always knew if I ate my breakfast or not. Happens when you live under the same roof. Unles... someone doesn't really care to even pay attention.
Also, it's not a normal conversation. Shor question and short order/plea/reminder. Nothing else.

She told her face to face she pity her.

For being so hotter, prettier and way richer than her. lol

For trying to manipulate Sumin to come back to her.

And Sumin made promises to Sungji - to never leave her side again being the most important one.

She made that promise to Seju too. Her promise is breakable though.

She's keeping those promises now. To both of them. And she always cherished important promises.

You seem to be worried about things unecessary. There won't be right or wrong opinions, winners or losers here. If everyone didn't state their opinions out, there wouldn't be a discusion here.

She's keeping those promises now. To both of them. And she always cherished important promises

If Seju wasn't hurt, I don't think she would still be by Seju's side.

And that is the truth. Her being in danger is the only thing that let her live in the house. She was even ready to tell her to get out if Sungji didn't accepted it.

omg your game in short comment is ON! XD

Izz

you know why Sumin never worked hard in her relationship with Seju?

Sumin takes Seju for granted. (this is why experiencing the possibility of losing Seju is crucial in this arc)

And that is the truth. Her being in danger is the only thing that let her live in the house. She was even ready to tell her to get out if Sungji didn't accepted it.

Funny, the house is SEJU'S,
it is a fact that Sungji knows

in ch27, when Sumin was beaten up by Dangouk, it was Seju who sheltered her for more than the three days that she slept

^ I believe Izz makes a pont that Sumin wants to buy the house because she is not attached to Seju and doesn't care that it is hers. Unlike her parents' house that she would be unable to live, since she was attached to them and it would bring back lots of emotions.

At this point I'm not sure if this really has a deeper meaning.
I don't think Sumin will ever completely get over Seju, but at this point this is a step to move on form her. She doesn't care that Seju bought her this house. She just doesn't want to feel like she owes her anything.

Hah I just want this story to end already lol.

her parents house reminded her of Baek Seju as she herself says in ch50.
but she says clearly to Seju: it is the house you bought because of me
(she suddenly broke the cold face into another sad one )

Opinion: view or judgement formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge.

I can think everyones opinion here is valid without agreeing with them. It all depends on the subject matter. We are reading a story that is partly based on interpretation, not debating whether coloured people are more likely to commit crime etc.
