I like it when there's smoking in yuri. It usually ends up being shorthand for "this girl has a tragic backstory that drove her into a depression where all she can do now is smoke her troubles away until the right girl comes along to help her fix her life."

Alternatively, it can just mean she's going to be foul-mouthed, rude, and utterly entertaining to watch. Either way it makes for a good story.

Actually, much of the time when I see an adult woman smoking in non-SFF anime/manga, it often indicates that she's a serious career woman.

Yeah, but 90% of yuri involves schoolkids. Adult yuri is a rare think in my experience and is thus worth reading regardless.

Schoolgirls in the context of yuri generally refers to middle or high school, the sort of girls who'd wear uniforms. College or university would already be adult in context, even if they're not working for a company or anything.

True, but college women aren't seen as schoolgirls. Torako smokes in yotsuba, so this isn't really a case of smoking in yuri either.

Smoking rabbits, though, that's unforgivable.
