Pretty much this. Mouko's world is basically filled with Keine. That's who she thinks of all the time, it's who she spends her time with, her happiness derives from her. So the way that Keine is made up physically of all the things she's eaten, including history, Mouko's heart is made up of the experiences Keine has given her.

Man, talk about mood whiplash.

Probably because she doesn't appear for most of the story, except in flashbacks. In fact, aside from a very brief scene, most of the story is Mokou chosing to moonview alone with her mementos of Keine while fondly remembering their moments together. I think it's fairly understandable how people can be misled by the mood.

Indeed, it's pretty clearly intentional from the structure that you're meant to be misled that way. How could you NOT interpret it that way really.

I keep coming back to this and other works by this author. They're all a nice blend of heartfelt and funny.

The angst was going to kick in..
