Yeah, that's a good point. The MangaDex chapter comments were always pretty engaged, though. Given its depth and themes, it seemed to evoke a lot of personal, introspective comments. There was still something lacking though, as I'm not sure how much was said about the manga directly. Really is a hard one to pin down.

I swear that girl is a walking kabedon. The series feels pretty melodramatic, but reframing Mitsuki's anger probably reduces the overall drama potential by a lot.

Absolutely the right place. I don't think Holocaust memes, regardless of the point being made, are remotely acceptable in this space. Hopefully not something I'll ever have to add to the rules, thanks for reporting it in a timely manner.

Yeah, that's super unfortunate when it does happen. But I don't find that to so much be the case here, as various unrelated discussions seem to take place here quite persistently. I spotted very little hoarding, too. To help, I counted all the posts from August 27th until your post. Just keeping it to the types of comments you're highlighting, I saw 3 posts on "the arcana of translation", and 13 on "what does yuri REALLY mean." That would be 16 of 190, if my overall counts are correct. Now, there were some other topics that didn't necessarily relate to the manga, but most of them were non-sequitur, or came and went quite quickly.

I'd encourage anyone who wants to see more discussion of the manga to focus their attention on that. In my counting I noticed that whenever new chapter discussion came up, wlftchtr82 was always there, lurking in the shadows...(to their great credit, of course)

Conversely if one really feels the thread is going off-the-rails, I'd encourage them to report it in the Help thread. Some meta discussion is tolerated, but doing so at the expense of more related topics is very much discouraged.

I like a lot of the rules folks laid out here. On the rare occasion I leave any kind of post beyond a line or two, they're most often a means of distilling my thoughts so as to better understand them. It makes sense (to me) to share those thoughts, good or bad, to encourage others to expand my perspective (and hopefully do the same in return). On the flip side, I guess I'm rarely bothered by critical or dismissive comments toward stories I like. If something doesn't work for you, well, that's just how it is. Not really my business.

Edit: Though, I can definitely relate to OP. In general when I run into a fandom that has a deep love for something I do not, I'd rather keep quiet and find other folks to talk to about it. It's kinda rude to interrupt people having fun to rain on their parade, ya know?

See, to me, constructive criticism isn't negative at all. It's a great starting point for discussion or disagreement, but it's positive because you can build on it. I see negative comments as the ones that don't leave room to build.

That's interesting. Personally I adopted the word "productive" a couple years ago to capture that difference. I think your definition "don't leave room to build" is a very good one.

Small Housekeeping Update (August 9th, 2022)

Addressed ~1500 tag suggestions since May 14th

With this, the old backlog of tag suggestions (suggestions of existing tags to new content) is more or less cleared. Huge, huge huge thanks to runrin, Norainhere, Altair and everyone else who chipped in with this effort throughout the past several years! It feels great to be done with, and we'll definitely never fall behind again.

And with that project coming to a close, we'll be going back through current and previous suggestions for new tags in the next several weeks. Expect to see updates here (and on the site, obviously) whenever new tags are added.

For the person who handles the Images section, there is no serious interest in adding any image-specific new tags. Could definitely change in the future.

Inconsistently applied, but the general (old) rule for doujin content was to not tag specifics that should be obvious by the series they're a doujin for. Otherwise, I'd expect the Animal ears tag to be applied to any occurrence of that feature unless it's overriden by the Furry tag.

Edit: The Touhou Project tag doesn't show up either in the "suggestions" when you're looking up the image gallery or in the first page of the site search, which makes it a bit hard to look up for it in the site. Is there any way to force it to appear before any other result?

Can you explain that further? It looks like it's working to me.

Generally, I'd like to add new tags every 2-4 weeks. As we've been working hard through this year to clear out the previous queue of tag suggestions (not new tag suggestions - existing tag suggestions applied to old content), new tags have almost entirely been put on hold in the meantime. Read the next post, though!

I know it's way too much to ask of Pekoe to respond to every single little tag recommendation with "no" or "yes, but wait a bit". I'm not saying I want that :P Just a little curious if my suggestion is still being considered or maybe got lost in the shuffle.

That would never be too much! I'd definitely be open to it if these things could be handled with notifications (but we're still stuck in 1996, so...).
