She already had 'given up' so I don't think her doing something about it will happen anytime soon, and falling in love with someone else is also out of the question

So the only way for the story to move on is Uta losing the only character development she had, bringing her character back to 0.
But seriously, if Koaru spends the next five chapter with this "maybe he cheated on me. What do I do? What do I do?"....

  • Lots of depictions of het
  • Constant feeling of hopelessness/no progress
  • MC is kinda boring

Really wanted to like this manga because I love TMNR'S art and EliUmi doujins but this story is really not my cup of tea (and in my opinion worse drama than Citrus). Second time dropping this manga, hopefully for good.

Well, in Saburouta defense, Citrus moves fast from one drama to another.
This one doesn't, and that just gives the sense that the story is slow as hell. Wonder if it'll be more 20 chapters of MC crying before she finally does something.

Kokkoku has that edgy setting some seinen have, but instead of going the route "everyone is evil, world is fucked", the characters actually makes sense, both antagonists and protagonists. I hope it stays like that, too, instead of going to a more Gantz-ish route.

Yuru Camp is fun and comfy as hell, but people who want the gay Kirara experience shouldn't skip Slow Start either.

It's also pretty fun, anyway.

Spoilers about last chapter:
No yuri at all. Not even subtext unless you count one panel where it seems like one girl will held the other's hand, but she doesn't. No plot development and mostly not character development except for the fact Shijou now thinks games are fun, I guess...

Have fun.

Well, she specifically wants to know about love, which isn't really a battlefield thing. But, yeah, the show is worthwhile just for the animation, but I remain skeptical about basically every other aspect

Well... she clearly loves him, so she knows about that already...also, everything implies she doesn't know about feelings.
There's a couple of other things that bothers me in the show. Like, why don't tell her already what happened to the major? She clearly understand the concept of death and she's not a child. In fact, even hiding it from a child is wrong. That just seems like a cheap move to push the scene to the last episode. Why the Evergarden were all welcoming with her and suddenly she can't live with them anymore? They didn't even give a reason. Just looks like their only point in the story was to give the anime a title. The last bit with them saying "she finally asked something for herself" also bothers me, because she didn't. She just wants to understand her "master", like she did all her life. If that's representative of the growth in her character, I'm not looking forward to it.

What gives me hope it the probably episodic format, since the other stories might be more interesting than Violet's. Yoshida Reiko is a good writer, after all. It turns out that the general idea doesn't help her.

I wanted to say "FUCKING CUTE!!!", but now it would seem like I am just copying Royce. ;_;
This was awesome in so many ways! Why the question mark in the title, though...

The first time he posted it on twitter, it was that marriage montage with a question "is this Yuri?". Most japanese answers were positive and he made more, so I feel like he was testing waters, seeing what the yuri fanbase would think.

So the (?) is probably to avoid triggering the people who are not okay with it. I don't know about thai, but japanese people usually try to avoid conflict in the internet (at least on Twitter and pixiv), and considering he ignores the few posts saying it's not yuri, he's probably the same.

Ramen blonde girl Tsundere girl has a boyfriend DROPP-.. Had a boyfriend! okay let's watch some more! I actually want to taste ramen with pineapple, I guess is because that's the only flavor I can relate, dunno what a ramen taste like actually.

Kyoani soldier blonde girl Hmmm hard to say yet, the flashback moments were awesome but I'm not sure about what's coming next, she wants to become more human by experiencing more stories (through letters) but is that all? a girl writing letters?

Problem with Evergarden is that she wants to know about feelings after fighting a whole war. If seeing her comrades die in the battlefield wasn't enough, I don't see how write letters will help. This plot makes no sense.

oh, if not for the tags i was thinking she was a girl who dressed like a boy when she was a kid, like in prism

It is pretty easy to read it that way. The "cut off" line could be taken as "I never had one to start with" and the end could be read as "Wouldn't you rather have a guy?" with "A woman is what I want" in reply. With the exception of the milk line and the kind of insulting "(?)" in the title, I can see how you'd get that impression.

But I think I like it better this way.

There's more, and this one is pretty obvious.
The artist isn't japanese, though.

Nettai-gyo is weird because yeah it's not listed as Yuri or Shoujo-ai by MAL or Bakaupdates but people like yurinavi on twitter seem to promote it as yuri. Also it's being sold on the yuri section on the Animate stores in japan (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DSLkHJ2U8AEoaC-.jpg). So here's to hoping it turns out as a nice yuri story!

Yurinavi promote subtext series as well. The subtext is probably intentional, but I doubt it'll go full yuri.

On the other side, their relationship is developed almost like the start of a romantic one, more than usual, so it could always happens.

Although Nettai-gyo wa Yuki ni Kogareru is pretty good, just a reminder to not expect yuri out of it that's not subtext. The reader where it's available has actually yuri works with yuri tag, but this one is tagged as friendship.

There's subtext, though, and I think the mangaka is a yuri fan, so who knows.

Appare-dan I found pretty mediocre, and the ending actually bothers me, even more as it's a series on a yuri magazine.

Has anyone played GRIMGRIMOIRE?
I wonder if the yuri (even in subtext) is good.
I'm thinking about grabbing it.

Pretty yuri. Also beyond subtext. Pretty much one girl invites the other one to the bed since she needs love to live.
The girl doesn't care much about the boy either, since she says he's just a player.

A shame Vanillaware never did yuri again. We need more yuri in niche games.

People who liked the manga actually liked the anime. Most of the complaints are about how the story is more visuals than substance. It's still one of the best rated anime this season, although I think HnK kinda of lost the attention MahoYome was getting.

I for one wasn't a fan of the characters. I dislike how Chise didn't seem to develop any self worth in the series (there's something wrong with someone thinking the best thing could happen to them is being bought) and Elias is kinda creepy.
Personally I think it would seems less creepy without the "yome" part, but still.

Although the production did drop from the opening eps, it is still one of the few shows this season that did not end up disappointing me.

For me it was a pretty good season, with great shows like Shoujo Shuumatsu, Houseki no Kuni, Konohana Kitan and Yuuki Yuuna. Some flawed but fun shows like Urahara and Animegataris.

Kino no Tabi and Love Live had some bad decisions, but I didn't find any that bad either.

Definitely the best season this year.

I dropped shit shows like Bland S and Two Car, though.

what was with that ending

The game has a mirror witch, where you can battle against other players's characters. Storywise, it's a witch that makes copies of the mahou shoujos that go inside her barrier.

Inside the barrier, Kaede meets a fake Rena that's not a tsundere, but a docile girl. Kaede keeps bullying that Rena because "she's so cute".

So that's what the ending is about.

Was there anything relevant this season yuri-wise? I would also like someone to recommend me some yuri slice of life anime, you know, the usual subtext but no male between the yuri subtext, something like Re-kan, I always have this one in mind because I think it's the one I liked the most, it was very heartwarming. And I don't mind the yuri for lols as long as there's no het. Thanks in advance.

In more immediate concerns, next season:

Citrus - This is happening. I think the manga is garbage, but don't let me stop you from liking it

Hakumei & Mikochi - Potatoes and gorgeous backgrounds V3. Only yuri if you squint, but good

Maerchen Maedchen - Promotional material consistently uses ae rather than umlauts. So, it's about a magical girl school. Based on the work of an author that normally does het romcoms, but no sign of any males in the promotional material. IDK

Mitsuboshi Colors - Not really yuri, but shippable if you don't mind elementary school girls. I think this might work better as an anime than a manga

Ramen Daisuki Koizumi-san - So far it doesn't look like this'll be shorts and I don't know how that'll work. The manga has a major character that's not quite openly lesbian and a bunch of subtexty bits but is mostly about ramen. What the anime will do with this is unclear

The Seven Heavenly Virtues - Sequel to that show about sexy demon girls, now with sexy angel girls. First series was trashy and not really good, but it was openly yuri (also I thought it was bad in an interesting way)

Slow Start - Kirara series

Yorimoi - I think the Japanese title is supposed to be Sora Yorimo Toui Basho, but a lot of places have it under Uchuu Yorimo Toui Basho. The localized title is apparently A Place Further Than the Universe, which is an iffy translation. Anywho, all-female cast in what looks like a light drama. Might be yuri, might be het, probably be neither. Worth checking out just for the staff, though

Takunomi - Looks like a CGDCT series but with 20-somethings drinking booze

Toji no Miko - Another anime-original action series about fighting girls. This one is 2-cour, so we don't need to worry about it being cut down, though! Definitely going to at least have some subtext; the manga version had some cute scenes between the MC and her friend (interestingly, the "friend" character is of the nee-san archetype. Unusual!)

Yurucamp - Another one that's not really yuri but is kinda shippable. Also one I'd expect to be better as an anime. Be able to tell the characters apart now

Maerchen Maedchen - There's not male characters, the story is about the relationship between the two main girls and the series is recommended in some yuri japanese sites. Mind you that those sites also recomend a lot of story that's pretty much just friendship, though. But it's for sure no het.

Slow Start - https://dynasty-scans.com/authors/hakka_ya This mangaka is the author for this one.

Yorimoi - Writer is the guy who writes Love Live, Chuu2, Kancolle and Hibike. He kinda of puts yuri subtext everywhere nowadays, even where he shouldn't.

Also:

Hugtto Precure - It's Precure

Nanatsu no Bitoku - Spin-off from Nanatsu no Taizai. I dropped it, but some people might be interested.

The same ideas that "life has no purpose", "we're all gonna die anyway", "it's all but hopeless", "there is nothing to live for", & "no gods can save us" can just lead to a suicidefest with Punpun-level of depression.

Yeah, that's the kind of thing I can't relate, being someone who doesn't believe in God and doesn't believe life has meaning either, but I'm not depressed and I think the sense of freedom is actually good. We can make what we want with our lifes, instead of following other people's rules. That's why I like how the show isn't entirely pessimistic. It makes more sense to me.

Funny enough there's some old tweets by the author where she talks about how she didn't want to feel sexual acttraction, since she doesn't want children so she thinks there's no point, and how she likes a scene on a movie with a lesbian couple saying they reached the "dead end", since they won't make a family out of their relationship. I think this kind of sad thinking comes when people start to believe life has to have meaning.

i don't see any nihilism, they clearly doing their best to survive.

It's in the way the show has been portraying the characters' struggles. The attitude is less "WE NEED TO SURVIVE NO MATTER WHAT IN ORDER TO SAVE HUMANITY FROM EXTINCTION" & more just "whatever comes comes, if we live, we live, if we die, we die." This ep with Ishii kinda highlights that. She was trying to escape the city in order to find life outside of it, but it was futile in the end & she came to accept that. Also, we have Yuuri whose mentality is: "Life doesn't have a big meaning. God is fake. Embrace the hopelessness of your situation." Not saying this show is 100% nihilism tho. It has a lot of positive messages to counter some of the underlying nihilistic ideas.

I think those situation are most positive than the alternative. They aren't living for the sake of a bigger idea, they're living because they want to. To me there's a bigger value in that.

I'm predicting that they will both end up dying and being reborn again in the future. Ayafuji will actually die and Iris will go back to crysalis state only to meet again in the future and repeat the process all over again. They kinda hinted at it in the beginning here: https://dynasty-scans.com/chapters/vampire_chan_junior_chan_ch02#18 that Iris knew Sara before probably a century ago.

They also keep referencing those flowers that die and bloom over and over again so I don't think they're being that subtle of the direction they're taking it.

So in the end we'll probably get a bittersweet end where they'll separate now, but will always find their way to each other again when Iris wakes up.

(I'm not particularly happy if they do take it this way because i don't see reincarnation as a happy end. It always feels like a cheap way to bring couples back together, but they never have their old memories and are practically different people so even if they are "together" again, they arent really.)

I wouldn't count on that. The story has been pretty pseudo-scientific until now, so putting reincarnation into it suddenly would be weird.
There's also another reason as to why I don't think it's likely, but that's spoiler from next chapter.

Oh, and Urahara has some subtexty bits but is kind of bad

It's actually pretty fun so far.
I guess people can't get into something when it's different, since it's directing is different from pretty much everything I watched.

The style is the part I like. I just don't think it's very well-written. Or animated

Nothing they can do about the animation, but I think the style does a pretty good job in hiding its shortcomings. If KemoFure teached us something is that sometimes this doesn't matter, anyway.
I have no problem with the writing so far. In fact, it's not generic, so I think it's good so far. Of course, I still need to see how it'll keep going through next episodes.

Yuri or nay?

Signs seem to be pointing to the former. There's a point of contention since there's a version published in Yuri Hime S (titled Konohanatei Kitan) and a continuation/reboot running in Comic Birz, but the anime seems to be taking the story from the Yuri Hime version.

What people see as subtext is true for the Yuri Hime version.
Well, it's as gay as the gayers Kirara show.
Also, it's not a reboot as far as I know, but a sequel. Comic Birz even published the Yuri Hime chapters.
