And about yaoi, I find the whole "balance of power" thing between the characters (seme x uke) annoying and it's difficult to find some without.
It doesn't really help that the majority of relationships irl have no such concept really. Those that do usually revolve around the sexual part of their relationship more than anything else.
So yeah, Yaoi did seem to have a much wider visibility than yuri. Not saying there was no yuri, just that it was generally harder to find and easier to miss than the whole BL stuff.
I wonder if this doesn't at least partially have to do with the fact that there's simply less yuri being written.
It's like an initiation ritual on the internet. If you haven't been traumatized, you have no business being here.

It took me a surprisingly long time to really see anything that was all that traumatizing to me when I first started frequenting the internet, lol.
And I only knew the name and nothing about it at 17. Then at that point in time I didn't have internet access so I really couldn't look up that sort of thing.
