Just read the latest chapter. Feeling the same way as other commenters here pretty much. I am curious if there is some kind of relevance to the moon and the clover maybe being related to their names? Like sharing a kanji or something maybe? It seemed to read that way. Hopefully someone with some Japanese knowledge can fill us in on that.

In the former Japanese calender, 葉月 Hazuki was just the Japanese name for August, it was later changed to 8月 (which just mean the 8th month of the year) but it's a popular name for girls, especially born in August.

As for the significance of the necklaces, Hazuki is written with the kanji for leaf (ha 葉) and moon (tsuki 月).

I don't know is there is a particular significance for the clover as a leaf though.

Ahh, thanks for clarifying that, I was expecting something like that but my capacity to figure things like that out for myself is pretty limited...

Yeah this was one of those chapters where it was both really sweet, and also I'm realllly curious to see what happens next chapter. One would hope that Sendai's gonna stay all emotional and blurt out stuff she's been too afraid to say, but it might just skip ahead to the next day instead if the author wants to be a jerk and keep dragging out eeeevery possible bit of progress.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say it probably won't be a cliffhanger, since there was just a change in point of view - it's rare for there to be only one chapter from a particular point of view before swapping back, so with luck we'll get more ...

Also this is gonna absolutely break Miyagi's brain. It's almost like Sendai LIKES her or something, but obviously that is impossible, so why is Sendai acting like this??!???!?!?! It's a MYSTERY

Miyagi is going to be very very uncertain about how to respond to this.

She's not actually an idiot (stop sniggering in the background!), she knows Sendai has some .... interesting feels about her, even if they often seem to be more the erotic kind of feels than anything else. She knows that Sendai wants them to stay together as .... something? She surely suspects there's some romantic feelings involved, but she's not sure what to make of any of that stuff - not least because she just doesn't recognise any of the stuff that other people seem to be talking about when they go on and on about love...

What she does know about is promises and agreements and contracts - conditional relationships with well defined boundaries. Those are things that she can trust, and they're things she repeatedly comes back to in her relationship with Sendai. Sendai has always challenged them, but she's also always recognised how important they are to Miyagi, and respected that fact.

But that's all gone out the window, and keeps getting further and further out of sight as they spend more time living as "roommates" and then some ... For a while there was still the broad agreement that this would last until they finished uni, but even that's mostly forgotten now, by both of them. Sendai got more and more desperate to find a way to keep things going, which lead to her going down the route they're on right now: she's made herself Miyagi's property, wholly and as far as she's concerned forever.

Miyagi is a weird cookie, and her response to that was pretty much "okay then". But she's a responsible person, and one of the things that responsible people owners do is try and make sure that their people are healthy and happy - hence all that annoying nonsense (from Sendai's perspective) about having friends and a healthy social life and so on.

But at the same time, Miyagi rather likes this owning Sendai thing. She's finding herself getting more and more comfortable with the idea, and less and less comfortable with the idea of losing her person ... and the thing is, for Miyagi this is basically just how she's experiencing and expressing love. It's not something silly like possessiveness being her love language - she's never experienced romantic love before this, she's never felt anything even remotely like it; as near as can be, she has no "love language".

What she has is her Miyagi and Sendai language, and her Miyagi and Sendai feelings, and her Miyagi and Sendai relationship, and what she's been realising, finally, after painfully long, is that she really can't handle being without those things. Far more so than before - she's been feeling more and more comfortable being with Sendai, and correspondingly less and less comfortable being without her, and for a long time she had no way to frame those feelings. The "ownership" frame that Sendai created gave her something she could work with, though it's taken a while for her to figure things out in her head property - she finally had a way to express her feelings to herself: "I want to be Sendai's owner forever". It's a bit uncomfortable still, because it's a kind of possessiveness that's clearly not entirely healthy, but she can mitigate that without being forced to drop the ownership frame (by being a responsible people owner); but it also means she has a way to frame her feelings for Sendai to Sendai.

Of course, being Miyagi she took months and months to get there, and she took the most roundabout way she could find, but nevertheless here she is.

And because Miyagi is and will always be Miyagi, the way she chose to express her desire to be Sendai's owner forever was completely over the top (in context) - her own hard earned money, her own carefully (over) thought out choice of gift imbued with subtle meanings, her own inimitable style of gift giving, that all boils down to the simplest of messages: you are my everything.

Except, Miyagi being Miyagi, it's all within that ownership frame - you are mine, you will always be mine, and this is how I choose to mark that ownership. Which is why she insisted on taking back the necklace from before: that was a sign of their promise to be .... whatever the hell they were back then, but it's now been superseded, and now that old necklace is meaningless.

To get back to my initial point, Sendai weeping at this will be very confusing for Miyagi - she's going to be wondering how she hurt Sendai, and what she should do, whether she'll have to back off and relinquish her claim or something like that. The idea that Sendai is experiencing such a massive wave of relief that her emotions have boiled over is going to be really hard for Miyagi to grasp, particularly since Sendai probably won't be able to explain it - she'd need to say words to the effect of "I'm just so overwhelmingly happy that you did something like this to show how much you love me", and that would be totally breaking the rules. On top of which, Miyagi would probably (possibly?) start freaking out and running away at being told that this was an expression of love - I doubt she'll be able to accept that that's what this is until she's been able to figure out a new way of framing their relationship that allows her to be reasonably comfortable with such a thing.

So yeah.....

One thing that's interesting to see, though: Miyagi seems to have laid claim to Sendai's name. The moon and the leaf, marks of her possession of Sendai's very being, even down to her name - I'm guessing we'll see a whole lot more of "Hazuki", particularly when they're alone together. Whether Sendai will be allowed to take possession of Miyagi's name remains to be seen.... though Miyagi is a sucker for arguments from fairness, and Sendai...er, Hazuki... is a right sneaky one who's very good at figuring out how to get her way....

To be fair, I read the novel in Japanese, and the Japanese itself is quite convoluted. It's not something that someone would normally tell in Japanese as well. I have no idea how I would translate that in a none awkward way as the Japanese itself if awkward.

And she is not even saying that they are important to each other. 大事なものに住んでる人 would translate more to "the person that lives in a place that is important". In reference to Sendai saying that the apartment is an important place to her (because it's the place where Miyagi is).

This is the sort of thing that makes me feel fairly comfortable with my interpretation of the MTL over all these chapters of hard graft - there's a kind of fundamental awkward about Miyagi that comes through, even when I'm having to rewrite half the words in my head as I read them.

Though I do also worry that I'm reading more into the character than is justified... I find myself ...not quite identifying with, but recognising a lot of myself in Miyagi, and reading her as awkward in a very fundamental way is almost certainly coloured by my own sense of being awkward and weird.

That explanation of their "evolved roommates" relationship fits well with how it read to me contextually, despite the awkward way of expressing it. And so very Miyagi - we're not just roommates, we're.... people who share an important place....

I really wish I had the time and energy to actually learn Japanese....

Lol, this is really reminding me of that high school friend I had, whose mother also mysteriously left one day in her childhood and whose father worked such long hours, he was never at home. I'm not Sendai (unfortunately - I'd love to have her level of patience), but I can definitely see why she feels most at ease around Miyagi, despite her being the stray cat that she is. Perhaps I'm just biased.

Miyagi is consistent and predictable, but not boring.... Reliably and persistently not boring at all.

And very much the stray cat.

Good to see you here Himi-cat! Missed seeing your comments in the chapter discussion! Don't know what Story Seedling's deal is with not displaying comments anymore but whatever.

Miyagi is a weird cookie

There's the TL;DR :P

But she's a responsible person, and one of the things that responsible people owners do is try and make sure that their people are healthy and happy - hence all that annoying nonsense (from Sendai's perspective) about having friends and a healthy social life and so on.

Yeah we've been seeing Sendai feeling a bit frustrated about this for awhile. Kinda feel sorry for Mio too since Sendai's always thinking about how she'd rather not be hanging out with her because she could be spending time with MIyagi instead. Then again, Mio's brought it on herself a little since she's not reading between the lines and is inviting Sendai to mixers when Sendai's got Miyagi.

It's not something silly like possessiveness being her love language - she's never experienced romantic love before this, she's never felt anything even remotely like it; as near as can be, she has no "love language".

C'mon we know Miyagi's love language is "tsun...tsuntsuntsuntsundere". :P
Agreeable with everyone else and harsh with Sendai is Miyagi's MO.
But yeah, I don't think Miyagi's possessiveness is anything out of the ordinary. Hell, Sendai might even be more possessive with the way she can feel jealous towards anything (like inanimate objects in their apartment). It's just Miyagi's way of exercising her possessiveness via "ownership" that's a bit unusual.

The idea that Sendai is experiencing such a massive wave of relief that her emotions have boiled over is going to be really hard for Miyagi to grasp, particularly since Sendai probably won't be able to explain it - she'd need to say words to the effect of "I'm just so overwhelmingly happy that you did something like this to show how much you love me", and that would be totally breaking the rules

Oh have you met the Sendai that pops up in my daydreams from time to time? She's able to passionately express her feelings and Miyagi lovingly reciprocates them.
But the story would've been over in a few dozen chapters if it went the way I daydream about it.

Ya I have a feeling they're going to keep using their family names except when they're alone. And inevitably Miyagi will put up a bit of resistance against Sendai addressing her as "Shiori" but Sendai will eventually get her way.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is it's now clear that Sendai's student has a crush on her. And it seems that Sendai has picked up on this crush.

I wonder how this will come into play in future chapters. Will Miyagi somehow find out about this? Will the student(Kikyo?) continue to try to find ways to spend time with Sendai? Will Sendai have to let Kikyo know that she's more than just "roommates" with Miyagi so Kikyo knows she has no shot at romance with her.

I wouldn't call it a crush. She is just someone she is looking up to and admire. Not denying her potential feelings, but that's not how I read it.

Interesting, I thought there was little room for doubt since right after declining Kikyo's request to hang out sometime, Sendai then made an observation about how Kikyo treasures her pencil case the same way she treasures her own and then considers what the two have in common (we can infer she means they were both gifted to them by someone she loves).

Ch 348 is out: https://kakuyomu.jp/works/1177354054894027232/episodes/16818093083045251930

Well pretty much as expected of her...Miyagi continues to act like Miyagi. Sendai even thinks about how Miyagi always gets her hopes up only to dash them away, but she still loves Miyagi anyway.
Another one to throw on the rather large pile labeled "Thank God Miyagi found Sendai, because ain't nobody else putting up with her shit."

I do wonder what Miyagi thought about Sendai crying.

Sendai pleaseeee. What do you mean the mood is gone. Just say it ffs. I'm on the edge of my seat over here.

As usual we get what could be called great progress but progress that is deeply unsatisfying regardless. I really hope we don't have to wait another 100 weeks or so to get anything more exciting...

It's understandable why Sendai isn't confessing. She was stopped by Miyagi. After that, I'll doubt she will say anything anytime soon.

That's why I started to lost interest a bit in the WN. The author is more interested into dragging the serie as long as possible, rather than having an organic progression. It was a nice chapter regardless, but I don't expect anything significant to happen before another 40-60 chapter (it seems like there is kind of a milestone happening very 50 chapter or so).

Amawashi's good translation for Part 67 is up: https://amawashigroup.wordpress.com/2024/08/22/part-67-its-sendai-sans-fault-that-im-losing-sleep-i/

I imagine anyone reading that translation is also signed up for email alerts, but whatever.

And they've begun to talk about university...Miyagi's least favorite subject.
Sendai might have been able to coax Miyagi into more spicy situations if she framed it as "well we can do that or be responsible High School students and talk about university".

Miyagi just cannot keep her eyes off Sendai in the first part of the chapter. Keeps thinking about her blouse's buttons but she definitely doesn't want to unbutton them or anything. Yeah...just keep telling yourself that, Miyagi.

I'm not aware of one but I'm not at all informed about anything Discord related. I used it for a little bit several years ago but haven't signed on since.
I know there's a Shuukura subreddit but I always forget to check it. https://www.reddit.com/r/Shuukura/

Miyagi's had thoughts a few times about how she's afraid that getting hot and heavy too much with Sendai will just lead to Sendai getting bored eventually and leaving her - which is definitely her brain starting at, "Everyone will abandon me" and then working backwards trying to find a scenario for Sendai abandoning her. So even Miyagi being able to internalize, "Sendai likes being with me now" still comes with the attached emotional baggage that she doesn't really believe it will last.

Stack on top of that Miyagi picking up on Sendai's own issues, where Sendai barely knows how to express her own preferences. She was BFFs with whatsherface back in high school and then as soon as they graduated she peaced out, never to talk to her again. When Miyagi tries to get her to explain even like her basic preferences Sendai usually goes with, "I'll like whatever you want me to like." Sendai's brain thinks that's the way to show Miyagi she likes her, while it actually just enflames Miyagi's fears that she can't truly trust Miyagi liking her.

I had somehow forgotten about this. I remembered Sendai worrying that she might blurt out "I love you" during sex so she was trying to avoid getting too hot and heavy.
Sendai will eventually get too pent up and start getting more aggressive again. Lord knows that penguin plushie is probably getting tired of seeing all the self-love Sendai's been showing herself while they're having a temporarily dead bedroom situation.

Didn't notice while reading the MTL that Sendai totally caught Miyagi "staring at the blouse button/collarbone", which was pretty much Miyagi trying to look down her shirt.

I think this is the start of Sendai always initiating casual intimacy with the way she was stroking Miyagi's hair and then her ear later.
I think she might've been going in for a kiss when she covered Miyagi's eyes. Don't worry Sendai...you'll be able to kiss Miyagi casually whenever you want in the future. Sure, Miyagi will still often grumble and kick your shin/step on your foot, but she still allows you to kiss her.

I didn't take that as the meaning behind her taking it back. Miyagi said "Sendai-san’s name and everything belongs to me, so I’ll take this moon necklace." As somebody explained a little further up the second kanji of her name means moon. So I figured this was just one more little way of her expressing her ownership of Sendai.

Also, it's good to see you and the doctor here. I know I see you sometimes on the dex but I still miss y'alls comments after each chapter. Don't know what's going on with the comment section over there. I have like 15 comments saved on my phone for all the chapters where the comment section hasn't been working. It's going to be awkward once we're able to comment again and I go and post a whole bunch of rambling comments on the last 15 to 20 chapters in one day lol.

Holy shit, so I'm not the only one who does this? It's honestly nice knowing that haha. I sometimes spend an unhealthy amount of time imagining various happy scenarios for these two lovesick chickens. I'm sure it still means I'm a massive weirdo but at least I'm not the only one. No offense to you of course, not that I'm saying you're a weirdo. It's good seeing you and himi here, just found this forum today. Really annoying that the comment section over on the MTL hasn't been working in a while. Been looking for somewhere else to discuss the story. Also the subreddit you mentioned unfortunately isn't very active at all. It's usually just me and like one or two other people posting chapter discussions that never really go anywhere lol.

"I touch Miyagi’s hand holding the moon necklace.
In it is half of me.
The other half is in my heart, given to me by Miyagi."

This was so damn sweet. Thanks to an earlier comment this makes total sense now as one half of Hazuki's name is leaf and the other half is moon.

"Hazuki is one name with the leaf and the moon together.
It is not enough if only the leaves are with me. I cannot be me if Miyagi is not with me. I cannot live with the moon missing.
So, all the time, Miyagi must stay with me."

I wonder if Miyagi realizes this and it was meant to be the true implication of her taking the moon necklace from Sendai.

"I could finally say the words I wanted to say.
I thought so, but Miyagi’s hand covered my mouth."

Not sure what Miyagi was thinking here. Did she know what Sendai was about to say and isn't ready to face that yet? Or did she honestly think Sendai was about to say something about the necklace which she was too embarrassed to hear?

Also, I'm surprised Miyagi never questioned her as to why she was crying. Like did she understand it was tears of happiness and just didn't need to ask?
