In the MTL it's also really easy to tell when a phrase that doesn't have a 1-to-1 direct English meaning gets used. Like when Miyagi tells Sendai that they are no longer roommates but they are "living in something important." You can tell that it's an upgrade from roommates and that's it's basically "we're important to each other but it's not a committed relationship," but it's so awkward to read. I had to stop and stare at it for a while to make it make sense because an English-speaker would never use words that way to describe a relationship.

To be fair, I read the novel in Japanese, and the Japanese itself is quite convoluted. It's not something that someone would normally tell in Japanese as well. I have no idea how I would translate that in a none awkward way as the Japanese itself if awkward.

And she is not even saying that they are important to each other. 大事なものに住んでる人 would translate more to "the person that lives in a place that is important". In reference to Sendai saying that the apartment is an important place to her (because it's the place where Miyagi is).

The MTL is so awkward I can't even tell when something's supposed to be intentionally awkward. Lol. This translation makes a lot more sense to me though, ty.

I'm also kind of surprised to see some people sympathizing more with Miyagi since she's the more stubborn and "difficult" one imo, and I say this as someone who primarily relates to Miyagi's feelings too. I don't blame Sendai at all for feeling like she can't be direct with her feelings after Miyagi's first runaway attempt. You trigger someone like that once and it's so so hard to not feel like you have to walk on eggshells after that, cuz what if you can't fix it, or have things go back to the way they were? Sendai has more authentic friendships now but losing Miyagi would destroy her, this girl is the center of her universe.

Regardless, I think we can all agree on the way the author is now calling the WN on twitter: "面倒くさい女の子×面倒くさい女の子の共依存百合です". "A co-dependence Yuri of an annoying girl x an annoying girl".

That's so real of her LMAO. College arc really is their co-dependence arc. There was a point where I was worried it was gonna get super unhealthy but I'm kind of glad she's not taking it there cuz I think it would just turn things into an ugly trashfire and I'm too invested to be okay with things ending that way atp. And it's nice to see couples grow out of codependent dynamics instead of ending it in mutually assured destruction.

It was in another thread, so I don't remember it exactly but someone was saying that Sendai was a coward for not expressing verbally her love to Miyagi. But I would argue that Miyagi is even more of a coward as she is not even able to admit to herself that she is in love. And I don't buy the "she hasn't sort out her feelings". In my view, she is actively trying not to sort her feelings, she is putting energy into NOT doing that. In that way she is a coward. And while Sendai could have confessed by now, I also want to insist on the fact that not only Miyagi has run away once, but more than than, she never trusts Sendai's word when she makes a promise or is showing her affection. Tbh, it must be hard to confess to that kind of girl...

I'm pretty sure that was me, lol. I do stand by what I said. Not saying I don't understand sympathizing with Sendai. I do, and I really was rooting for her for a long time, and I still am rooting for the both of them to be happy together. I think I might be channeling my sympathy for Miyagi and my desire to have other readers sympathize with her a little hard into the territory of Sendai-bashing, which isn't really all that fair to her I'll admit. I hope that if more readers would maybe actually think about how Sendai's actions make Miyagi feel and just why she puts up the walls that she does, then they wouldn't be hating on her so much.

Like, Miyagi is mean in a very overt way and it's easy to think that if she just turned dere all of a sudden then everything would be sunshine and rainbows, but Sendai is mean in a much more subtle way that might be hard for the reader to pick up on if you're not thinking about it that hard. I mean, I actually do agree that I want Miyagi to confess and turn dere as soon as possible, and I am anticipating something big soon as I mentioned before, but she has good reasons for trying to set boundaries and wanting a clearly defined relationship, and it can't feel great that Sendai constantly pushes her boundaries without giving her any sense of security in their relationship.

Also, damn, Miyagi really can't live down the running away accusations, huh? Can those who are caught up to the MTL not agree that she has grown past that, and very much demonstrated to Sendai that she has grown past that as well? Guess that one really stuck a nerve with y'all.

I'm on Team Miyagi not because I think she's "more in the right," but because I just like her as a character, LOL. Miyagi is great at producing the drama, and her actions are often pretty consistent with her feelings. I like that she's uncompromising, unyielding and a major pain in the ass, though it's certainly not what I'd like in a real person.

Sendai has the patience of a saint and pushes things along quite often, always chasing down Miyagi when the latter runs away. I think she's also a pain in the ass and if we viewed the story entirely from Miyagi's POV, I'd be scared of Sendai too. The way Sendai plays it cool all the time (even though we, as the audience, know better) makes it seem like she constantly has one foot out the door even if it isn't the case. I do acknowledge that Sendai goes above and beyond for Miyagi's sake, though. The way she gives Miyagi affection and the way she thinks about her all the time is very sweet.

But Miyagi certainly doesn't make their lives any easier and I would say she's probably the more difficult one to deal with because her partner has to be walking on eggshells all the time. Although they're fictional characters, I'd say I like Sendai's personality traits more in real life, but Miyagi is definitely more interesting as a character to me.

She has grown indeed. But that's why it's not the only thing that I mentioned. She is constantly denying what Sendai is saying with stuff like "liar", "don't make promises", "I don't trust you". She is showing again and again that she doesn't trust her intentions and actions.

And yeah, Sendai is pushy for sure, not denying that. But if she wasn't there wouldn't be any story to tell at this point :p

Love is a two way street. It's on both of them to define the relationship and both have valid (from their POV) reasons for keeping things ambiguous.

By pushing boundaries do you mean Sendai initiating intimacy? It's totally fine if Miyagi turns Sendai down when she starts making sexual passes at her, but what about casual intimacy? Like when Sendai gives hugs or kisses here and there and Miyagi often brushes her off?
Sendai has incredible fortitude, because if my "live-in situationship partner" consistently gave me the cold shoulder like that, I'd devolve into a spiral of negative thoughts regarding how my partner feels about me. That they're just putting up with me and don't actually enjoy having me around.

Unfortunately I can't yet agree we're past that because Sendai hasn't thought about how she's past that. Around 15-20 chapters or so ago in the MTL Sendai has thought about how she's afraid of having sex because she might tell Miyagi she loves her in a moment of passion. And she's scared of doing that because that might push Miyagi too far, causing her to abandon Sendai.

The way Sendai plays it cool all the time (even though we, as the audience, know better) makes it seem like she constantly has one foot out the door even if it isn't the case.

I've only vaguely been aware of this and kind of mentally wrote this off as Miyagi's abandonment issues from her mother being projected onto Sendai. I'll add it to the list of subtle things I missed when reading the MTL.

She also has abandonment issue from her father, who promised her again and again that they would do stuff together while failing to fulfill those promises. That's why she doesn't trust Sendai when she does promises (also because for her, it's a very strong commitment while Sendai uses that word more lightly).

Lol, this is really reminding me of that high school friend I had, whose mother also mysteriously left one day in her childhood and whose father worked such long hours, he was never at home. I'm not Sendai (unfortunately - I'd love to have her level of patience), but I can definitely see why she feels most at ease around Miyagi, despite her being the stray cat that she is. Perhaps I'm just biased.

I don't necessarily think this is an MTL/human translation thing, but more of just my interpretation. Sendai is constantly thinking of Miyagi and wanting to be close to her, yet she's always doing some mental gymnastics in her head, trying to convince herself it's not really like that even when she knows that it is. If Sendai's true feelings towards Miyagi are like a 10/10 in terms of intensity, it feels like when she actually talks to Miyagi, she's constantly trying to downplay it to like maybe a 5/10. Of course, Sendai seems to be the type to show her love through actions far more consistently than words, but it might be confusing for Miyagi because it could come off as saying one thing, then doing something else.

Hey Seira, who's your PFP and why is she staring into my soul?

Chapter 346: https://kakuyomu.jp/works/1177354054894027232/episodes/16818093082253520419

Bahahaha Miyagi tries to be clever about getting Sendai's input on the necklace, telling her to pick out which page in the magazine she likes best...and she chooses a page advertising sunscreen! Nice try Miyagi.

Sendai was trying to set a date with Miyagi for a steamy session but Miyagi shut her down. Sendai was pretty damn confused why she was having to look through that magazine as her order and had no clue what Miyagi was annoyed about after she picked out her favorite page.

Edit: And they've mentioned "group date" several times, including this chapter. Is this like a mixer or something else?

Ah, thanks. Looks a lot cuter than I visualize Miyagi.

Probably Miyagi through the Sendai filter.

Actually Sendai likes her grumpy expression so probably not.

Just read the latest chapter. They are very adorable. Not really much to say though. Miyagi is scheming and indirect as always, and Sendai is horny as always XD

I wonder how much more pent up sexual desire Sendai can handle before she explodes. Miyagi needs to show that girl some love soon. The physical kind...not the necklace kind. Though I'm sure Sendai will love the necklace too.

Yeah, that's exactly that, those group date that university students often go to meet other people (from the opposite sex).

None of them are interested in that obviously, but it was mentioned a few times to test the water and see how the other would react.

The gay chicken never ends.

Now that I think about, the gay chicken ended awhile ago on Sendai's end. She's almost always the initiator and trying to coax Miyagi into sex but Miyagi usually shuts her down. And then the stuffed animal in Sendai's room has to watch as Sendai shows herself some self-love.

No worries! Take your time and have fun with your attempt at moving in by calling it an "extended" sleepover. :P

Chapter 347: https://kakuyomu.jp/works/1177354054894027232/episodes/16818093082594873427

Oh my goodness that was so sweet at the end. I know the ChatGPT didn't do justice to what Miyagi says to Sendai so I'll be looking forward to the human translation (one day).
Might as well spoiler tag even though I created the thread for new JP chapters, just so anyone who hasn't seen the chapter isn't spoiled That was a confession for all intents and purposes and it looks like Sendai took it as one since she's tearing up. Miyagi did not say "I love you" but told Sendai that everything about her belongs to Miyagi. That part almost made me squeal with joy.
So does that mean they're finally calling each other by first names?! Years after they met and nearly 350 chapters in?!

Bit of a cliffhanger again. Been awhile since I was this excited about the next Shuukura chapter.

Yeah this was one of those chapters where it was both really sweet, and also I'm realllly curious to see what happens next chapter. One would hope that Sendai's gonna stay all emotional and blurt out stuff she's been too afraid to say, but it might just skip ahead to the next day instead if the author wants to be a jerk and keep dragging out eeeevery possible bit of progress.

Also this is gonna absolutely break Miyagi's brain. It's almost like Sendai LIKES her or something, but obviously that is impossible, so why is Sendai acting like this??!???!?!?! It's a MYSTERY

That is to be expected. I'm pretty much sure that even if Sendai will say she loves her, Miyagi just won't believe her and call her a liar :p

Ugh I had forgotten about the possibility of it skipping ahead. But we have been building up to the necklace for like a dozenish chapters now, so maybe we'll continue on with the scene. Fingers are crossed because I'll be a bit cross if the next part skips ahead.
