I really like this "Civilization x Nature" ship. And it makes me remember a song from Ar tonelico named "XaaaCi", it's about the mother Earth taking the hard decision to kill us because civilization (humans) have reached a point where we make it impossible for another forms of life to keep existing (more or less what's happening today). It's a really sad and poweful song, I love it-

For the record Nakatani Nio basically said she let Iruma Hitoma create Haru since she only exists as a single name drop in chapter 45 otherwise. As someone who’s read the third novel I don’t find Haru and Yuu very similar at all. Yuu is often indecisive and prone to overthink things and keep her problems a secret, while Haru constantly moves forward and completely wears her heart on her sleeve. There are some similarities of course but I don’t think it was the intent on the part of either author. If you wanna look for similarities lets talk about how many parallels there are between Sayaka/Haru’s story and Riko/Miyako’s story. That was definitely intentional on Hiruma’s part

^ Yep, all of that is correct. There is also a bit of history how we came to the anime version. In the original manga, Starlights were just girls crossdressing as guys in their civilian form. But then anime changed it so that they have actual male bodies as their civilian disguise, and Takeuchi (the original author) was furious about this editorial decision.

It was widely speculated that the reason they did this is because a prominent feature of that entire season was Seiya romancing Usagi. It just so happens that most of those scenes transpire when Seiya is in her civilian form.

It might seem strange for the same anime which featured Haruka and Michiru, but you have to take into account that those two were already an established couple that expressed their romantic feelings through rare innuendos and rose petals flying across the screen. Plus, neither of them was the main character. Usagi being openly romanced and pursued by another girl, and her nearly reciprocating, was something else entirely.
