Im not sure where to ask that exactly, but ever since mangadex has been down, Ive checked multiple times on google, to see if its back up. Ill admit I dont use the website often, so I cant remember its URL. The site that pops up is mangadex . tv , and when I used it, there were those typical porn ads youll see on other non serious manga sites. Im quite sure that mangadex didnt use to have these types of ads (pretty much like dynasty). Is this a fake one?

Yes, that appears to have been an ad-riddled mirror or something. You can find the real MangaDex website here, at https://mangadex.org/

I know couple tags already exist, buy would it be possible to add character tags too? So you can search for all couples with a specific character or otherwise search for a character regardless of couples?

That would be a lot of bloating in the tag lists for something you can just use your browser's search function for.

It would help with "character x everyone" posts though

But do the number of times this would be helpful justify having an entire novel of tags? Specially on stuff like Touhou djs and your average Virgin's Empire chapter?

While I see value in the idea, I believe it's been established since the redesign of the site that character tags won't (or perhaps, can't) be supported.

Id like a way to be notified, if someone directly quotes me to answer or discuss something I posted. By directly, I mean if my post is the last thing that was quoted perhaps in a chain of quotes. For example by having a dot appear next to the username on the upper right (like any social media app) on my profile. Then you should be able to click on something that directs you to the place, where the post containing the quote comes from, to make interactions easier. Right now, I tend to just look at things I posted, to see if people actually said something about what I said.

of course this should be optional, for people who just want to be left alone.

It might be more accurate to use that tag rather than yuri, which specifically denotes a specific subset of GL in Japan. (Of course we'd change yaoi to Boys Love too).

And on a similar note has there ever been discussions of including country of origin tags? Right now I kinda use the read left to right tag as a stand in when I'm searching for a specific series that isn't japanese but that has its own limits of too. It would be pretty hard to retroactively tag everything on the site though, so I can understand if it's too difficult.

Yes, somewhat frequently in the distant past. Given that we're growing more comfortable adding stories from China and Korea specifically, it's a discussion worth having. There have also been consistent discussions of a Long strip or Webtoon tag, so how we deal with all of these types of manga may change in the near future. I'm not settled on an implementation yet, but I would definitely like to address these in some serious capacity.

As for retroactive tagging, it is unfortunate but in general we're willing to deal with the drawbacks that any new tags bring, so long as they're creating some other value as well.

I do think that changing the tag to Girls Love would be nice, because there are significant differences between chinese baihe, japanese yuri, korean GL, etc, but at the same time their common factor is f/f relationships so it makes sense that they would still be grouped together. Yuri is a decidedly japanese word, while I have seen GL used extensively between comics, novels, and tv series from multiple countries, so I think that it makes the most sense to use that tag as dynasty continues to bring in wlw stories from more diverse places beyond just japanese media.

I think that both country tags, as well as a long strip or webtoon tag would both be really helpful for organizing series, as well as making searches easier. Personally I’m a little more partial to long strip over webtoon but I think both do the job well and would be happy with either. Currently the left to right tag can be seen as a stand in, but considering the non-zero amount of japanese webtoon style comics, it won’t show all webtoons. Of course there are also plenty of non-long strip style comics that fall into the read left to right category too, so it doesn’t really function as a stand in.

I think the country tags would be a super helpful addition, and could even revitalize some dropped series or bring in new series. Say there’s a thai translator who wants to do some scanlating, but doesn’t know where to start, they could simply go and check the thai language tag and look for interesting series that were dropped, or see if there are any popular series that haven’t been translated yet for the site. Like I said above, there are some pretty noticable differences in style and tropes between comics published in different countries, so it makes sense that some people (myself included) would sometimes want to search specifically for chinese manhua, or korean manhwa.

(On a personal note, I feel like there are a lot of good unfinished thai series on this site, someone please contribute some thai content I’d love to see it)

MD use it because they needed a common tag for the combination of Yuri and Shojo-ai. Their Shojo-ai tag was what our Subtext is .

It's not that i'm against but that will an atrocious long time to tag every single work with the appropriate country.
