I don't watch this show, but I'm STILL hyped that they're canon. It's because I can imagine what it must be like to have a major lesbian ship that's been built up for 5 seasons be actually confirmed. I honestly don't think something quite like this has ever happened before in animated television, be it Western or anime (though I'd love to know if there are any other similar cases I don't know of).

I mean, there's plenty of dedicated yuri anime that are just plain gay, so I assume you mean "things that are made for general audiences but happen to have a primary same-sex couple." Kill la Kill kinda did, The 100 did until they killed one of them (spoilers but honestly i'm just saving you hurt), and um... yeah I can't think of anything else lol. Gays are usually side pairs.
