guys i know this is really old, but i just randomly found it again. arent dragons reptile-ish? maybe like reptiles, dragons reach 'maturity' fairly early on in their lifespans. and then their growth just kind of slows down to almost nothing. so it could be possible that dragons age at the same rate as humans until they reach this 'maturity' and then it just slows down so that they're pseudo-immortal

@Lyca I forgot if the manga describes the way dragons age or not. But I do like your theory, since it means that Kanna and Saikawa would be able to be together as adults for at least a little while until Saikawa dies of old age. So it would still end up with the same fate of Kanna outliving Saikawa, but at least there wouldn't be an awkward age gap. Is what I'm saying making sense?
