The art's a lot more Western in style than a lot of what we see here, so I can see how it'd be a bit jarring. Not bad though, save for Yukari's face which seems slightly off and the fact that her butt sticks way out.

Yeah this artist has a heavy influence from western comics as well as manga. Their Marisa is basically Gambit from X-men, and their Meiling is similar to Rogue.

I personally really like the style tho. Big lovely ladies. :3c

I have not yet read/seen Mai Hime either, but for what I have read from related media, the manga is Yuri-free (at least the first one) and Shizuru is barely a secondary character there. So if anything, I'd aim for the anime.
