I love that one episode when we see Nico's little siblings for the first time. That short flashback about when Nico has her own idol group kinda stuck in my mind, because before then Nico was just butt monkey for jokes. But if for a few moment, I saw her determination.

Eli was also a loner. So was Nozomi, afraid to get close to people lest she have to leave them again. Nico wasn't alone by choice - she was abandoned and for some time continued to try to be with others.

Also in canon, Nozomi stood by Nico during the time she was alone.

Well, the second years have been a trio since they were children and all of them pretty well-liked by their classmates. Same for Hanayo and Rin. Those five are all pretty well adjusted without any particularly dark backstory.

When it comes down to it, the only one who seems to really enjoy solitude, although she also likes being with her friends, is Maki. Especially if she's got a piano to keep her company.
