It always surprised me that people think so highly of Lovecraft's prose. Imo his style works much better in poetry (and maybe the shorter stories). Also, I think his best stories are actually the ones more on the fringe of the mythos.

I actually prefer Thomas Ligotti to Lovecraft, judging from what I read of both. Besides not having such a dated and ornate style, his stories seem heavier on the philosophical and to deal in a wider array of themes.

I will be honest. I was always interested about cosmos and beings higher than human whom human's thinking can't even comprehend. And psychological horror too.

As compared to ghosts who are too bland and overused, higer beings and Aldrich gods sounds way interesting and more convincing for horror genre.

Bloodborne is prime example of it as it is more popular among masses as compared to Dark Souls who is based on spirits and souls

I read a bit of Lovecraft, and the only stuff I actually found scary was The Colour Out of Space, which really worked with the creeping dread thing. All the stuff that involved the Old Gods was so overwrought it ended up seeming kind of ridiculous. It's great conceptually, but his writing style mostly killed it for me.

I think the greatest strength of Colour was that the monster was never explained, or even really described, and it wasn't exactly clear what it did. And yet it was something, and it did something nonetheless, and that made it scary.

I've always had a hard time appreciating poetry. I simply have trouble wrapping my head around it, no matter how I've tried. I just chalk it up to not having the mental temperment for it.

I get where you're coming from, some poetry is pretty demanding, and the on the flip side, there seems to be an incredible amount of crappy poetry out there nowadays (that is also somehow praised). I have a hard time finding stuff that's good, but without being something that interests only academics.

If it tells you anything, though, I managed to enjoy said book even though english isn't my first language nor am I particularly fond of its sonority.

I missed you all haha, seems like the was a debate about love raft that was happening but I don't even know what that is so..XD...how's everybody been doing, also I kinda miss Anon T//-//T but it's fine cos we all got a life right ahaha. We just cleaned the whole house yesterday, put up all the last decorations and the outside of our house looks like it's from a movie is what Galich said loooooool.
