Well since none of the Aikatsu fans have commented on this I might as well respond give a short answer: I can recommend the anime unless you dislike idol stuff, it's mainly slice of life stuff with a lot of subtle (and not so subtle) subtext thrown around, there's a lot of singing and dancing, and there's the dramas which are pretty fun. The only parts I found kinda meh where in late S1 and early S2, I enjoyed everything else. Oh and the animation improved quite a bit since the first few eps.
And the transformations are totally skippable you know? just a few seconds.
