After reading the steven universe thread, i wonder why there isn't one in that we could discusse that and other programs, stuff like new chaps, theories, ships or reactions
Who is up for it?
Yes! I was actually waiting for a thread like this, though others similar ended up dying in the past...But that's not important. Anyways, I've been noticing a recent trend in cartoons towards gayness. What are peoples' thoughts on that?

Yes, you can totally see a lot of subtext these days, even if they're just joking, but the problem is the censorship, like when bubbline suposed to be canon and then pen - i can't spell he's last name- had to take it back for some issues cartoon network had, then there's steven universe wich they literally rocks with a lot of subtext they get censored too but i don't see that they ever censor finn's relationships or jake's comments about he and unicorn rainbow that sometimes are too much for kids to get and they get all worked up by non graphic girlxgirl mention, the only series that was open about something like this was the legend of korra, the creator openly declareted canon without caring what nickleodion would say, now that's a great person inside of animetion world

People fear it will make their kids gay and/or it is too early for them to be "exposed" to such unthinkable thing as gay people. Who cares kids are more than capable of understanding those kind of things and since it becomes more and more accepted in society, they will encounter it anyway, so it would actually make more sense if it was properly explained to them earlier. Not allowing it on television is just a extension of ignorant people point of view that instead of being born gay you just magically turn into one.
About Legend of Korra. That is completely untrue. They couldn't be open about it at all. They had that idea of Korrasami for some time, but since Nickelodeon would never allow them to do it, they had to hid their intent from them until last minute. They only could drop subtle hints here and there. If Nickoledeon was ok with it, we would see a actual relationship between Korra and Asami during series or at least their attraction to each other would be more blatant. Even in series final moment they couldn't say it outright but had to keep it implied and was only able confirm it after series ended, outside of the show, so no matter what, Nickoledeon wouldn't be able to grip about it. It was a big step but it was far from getting a actual show with good representation of lesbians/lesbian couple (well in this case bi people). And it was confirmed only outside of the show. If you only watch series, you can easily miss it and just think they are close friends. It is really sad that this is the closest that bs policy is allowing shows for kids go in their fear of exposing children to "bad influence".

Now that I think about it, last episode of Legend of Korra is really insulting. So how their confess their love to each other? They stare into each other eyes passionately while holding hands. Meanwhile side characters are getting married next to them while having party for everyone to see and can confess their love with words for everyone to hear (that is kinda the point of getting marriage, to make it official). Everyone knows about it, while even audience might not be sure if Korra and Asami got together or not, until they read creators comment on it.
You can see the obvious contrast from the start. When Korra was in love and dated Mako and even later when we had love triangle it was perfectly fine to show it and be explicit about it. But when Korra is interested and want to date Asami? 1 scene with her blushing when Asami complements her looks is enough. It is a long way before homosexual couples will be treated the same way heterosexual are.

Apparently even this much is censored in some releases from what I've heard and seen. I never even knew about this stuff until a fair bit after finishing the series because the version of the last episode that I've seen ends with them walking into the portal and that's it.There's no hand holding or anything like that involved.

Really?! I thought they just wanted to make it a surprise :c
Just kidding, i mean of course they did it after the end and just left subtext on the series with the censorship and nick on top of them, but i mean even if the series was finished there would still be a contract right?
Wouldn't get them in trouble for something like that?
^Pretty sure if they would have made it 100% obvious that they were dating, Nick would have told them to change it. Since they did it after the series finale, there is no way for Nick to do that. I doubt there is a "no bisexuals" clause in their contract.

Yes, but contract is about whatever they animate in show. Posting about intended ending on the blog isn't against rules. After all, they don't confirm anything in show itself so Nickoledeon can't complain about anything. I don't think saying it outside of show involved any risk for them.
(At least I think that is how it works)

It should also be noted that the upcoming canon graphic novel will have them as a confirmed couple. The restrictions on what they could do in animation (based at least partly on selling to foreign markets) does not apply to comics and other material.
