Is it just me, or has yuri lately been VERY angsty, full of drama and with bad endings? Sure seems that way to me...

It always was like that. Rather we were lucky to get some nice, fluffy and with good endings recently.

Because of course she found a boyfriend instead of getting a new girlfriend.

Just wanted to say that.

Well, that wouldn't have been as dramatic, would it? Because her getting a new girlfriend wouldn't have hit as hard (at least for me...)

Sure new bf strikes harder than new gf, but mostly because with new gf, it would be just "i wasn't good enough for her?" with new bf, you got also entire "was she serious about me? did she even love me? maybe she wasn't lesbian after all" stuff, that adds way more to the news. I honestly think you think that way only because of those unconscious (or conscious) implications that we learned to add when hearing that one of girls broke the relationship because of the bf. It just has inherently more drama and I don't think that is a good thing, because it as well always make us naturally think of the other girl as a bad person, whatever her choice was justified or not.

Well, I don't exactly need fluffy and cute yuri, but I do like it when in the end, the girl gets... Well the other girl xD
And yeah, I think you're absolutely right. My ex-gf was bi and I knew she had been very unfaithful to her past partners. Add to that that we were also having a long distance relationship and I guess this story just hit a little bit too close to home...

I didn't mean to make it sound like it wouldn't have been just as bad if she had cheated on her with another girl, it's just that having her go back to a boyfriend feels like she wasn't satisfied with a girl so she went back to men.. Which is probably just something I'm wrongly reading into this ;)

.. I just hate getting emotionally invested in a pairing (yup that happens for me even in a 20-page-long oneshot) and then having my shipping heart broken lol

Well I heartily agree with you on that, though cute and fluff doesn't hurt either xD

Sorry to hear that ;/ Well no one can blame you though. We all read manga with some expectations and projecting of our experiences to the story. That is part the reason why we can related strongly or like some stories more than others.

Nah, that is exactly what I meant. Because of how most of the time bi (which might actually be just straight) characters are presented in yuri teaches us that bi gf will find a guy and cheat with him/break up with you for him. I think it is unfair way of thinking because it is pretty judgmental, but it is something that happens a lot, that is why I totally agree and see why you would get that impression.

I totally feel you on that <3 I get so invested in characters that now I'm actually afraid to read anything with any drama if I don't know if they will be together (or if the story is good in general), because I don't want to waste my feels pointlessly.

It must be difficult not being able to see the person you love for so long, and barely being able to contact them. Long distance is hard enough already without such a busy and public lifestyle.
She could've gone about it better, but eh.

Understatement of the century.

[...] Because of how most of the time bi (which might actually be just straight) characters are presented in yuri teaches us that bi gf will find a guy and cheat with him/break up with you for him. [...]

I'm more inclined to say that's how bi characters are usually presented in all media people are usually seen in general.

Would probably agree with you on that if I did read/watch yuri in other media xD Well I got glimpses of that from reading yuri in the other media thread though ;x

^ I was gonna post another wall of text, but, yeah. My whole point was that perhaps Mizuki wasn't a lesbian/bi to begin with and was just using Sachiko for company and when she got the chance to find a boyfriend she dumps her. That is perhaps, not a statement.

And as far as I've seen in yuri/media all bi people do cheat on their girlfriends with a man. That's why I think lesbians don't really like bi girls.

I hope this is meant as

as far as I've seen, in yuri/media all bi people do cheat on their girlfriends with a man.

rather than

as far as I've seen in yuri/media, all bi people do cheat on their girlfriends with a man.

I'm having a hard time reading that right.

Comma doesn't change meaning at all.

He is just agreeing, that most of the time in any work of fiction bi people tend to end up cheating with a guy, when the bi person is a girl and have a girlfriend, so it indeed become a kind of cliche/expected thing?

It's probably 'cause english is not my mother language. At least in it, there is a big difference in the meaning.

Comma can sometimes change the entire meaning of the sentence, I agree on that, but here I fail to see how it matters.

as far as I've seen, in yuri/media all bi people do cheat on their girlfriends with a man.

From what I saw (as my experience in total), in fiction all bi characters (he meant female most likely, but not 100% sure) end up cheating on their girlfriends with men (aka never with girl, even though they are bi).

as far as I've seen in yuri/media, all bi people do cheat on their girlfriends with a man.

From what I saw in fiction (as my experience with fiction), all bi characters end up cheating on their girlfriends with men.

I seriously don't see any difference. It is just where you make a pause, it doesn't change meaning in any way x.x

EDIT/ Only thing that technically changes is talking about entire experience or only with media, but that basically means the same thing.

Well, as a lesbian, I can tell you that I'm skeptical about entering a new relationship with a bi girl (especially if she has mostly/always dated men before), I would rather be just with another lesbian girl.
You can still get cheated on and dumped, but it's just less likely imo and you have less competition to worry about lol

The only worse thing for me that has my alarm bells ringing is the best friend who has always been straight who knows you're into girls and decides it would be fun if she started making out with you, finds out she likes it, then 2 weeks later "Oh no I wasn't serious, I'm 100% straight and only like men" ... Riiiiiiiiiiight. XD

'Cause you're reading "from what [...] all bi characters" while it was written bi people (and thus I read the second one as "all bi people in general"). As I mentioned, the sentence just gives me a hard time.

It all makes sense now! Well I do think telamon meant it the way I read it, but would need to wait for him to clarify on it himself.

I learned the hard way that a relationship where you constantly wonder with whom / when you'll be cheated on is doomed to fail.. Lol

Ugggh yes, way to absolutely ruin the story for me, no matter how cute the whole rest of the story was!

Lol only after our talk I understood what you meant here xD Way to go x3" Yea, I think even bi in real life are seen as flimsy and unfaithful. There is a stereotype of "bi person can date 2 people of different gender at once" or general "bi people do it with everyone" for a reason I guess.

Exactly, and it seems fiction usually doesn't try very hard to help enlightening people on the matter...

Nevri was right, didn't use the right word. Just meant for media in general. And because of that lesbians don't have any trust in bi girls(mostly)/guys, probably because they don't know any bi people.

Goes to show that I don't do multi-tasking well xD

Ironic to see this discussion in the middle of Bisexual Awareness Week, don't you think?

No if you:
1. Don't live in U.S.A./any American countries
2. Don't watch TV/listen to the radio at all.
3. Don't really care about what is going on in the world in general
4. Don't do all of above (like me)

And...why would any of that make it not ironic? That doesn't make a lot of sense.

Also, I fall into 2 as well. But see, I use the internet. I doubt there'd be a lot of bi awareness on TV/radio anyway. And I don't live in the US.

I like to think of myself as fairly up-to-date with current events but.. I have never heard of a Bisexual Awareness Week. O.o
Is this a well-known thing in the US?
Didn't realize we had/needed a Bisexual Awareness Week..
Not quite sure if there's much of a point to it and if the general population cares about it much though.
Frankly I associate Awareness Days mostly with diseases like the World AIDS day or the World Cancer day. I'm not convinced it's a good idea to make one for bisexuality, might give off the wrong idea.
So... What do people usually do to "celebrate"? Lol

But see, I use the internet.

You would still need to use it to get some news about world (which I don't).

I doubt there'd be a lot of bi awareness on TV/radio anyway.

I can imagine at least some mentions of event or at least one talk-show related to event.

And I don't live in the US.

You live in Canada if I'm not mistaken? The last time I checked it was in North America, hence you live in American country ;x

I think it's very much needed (and not just in US). You just need to look at how many people seem to think bisexual = promiscous. And that's just one noxious myth.

I guess it is mostly on the same level as all those gay parades etc. It is more like ways to make people understand/accept/acknowledge specific group of people. Honestly most of the time it strikes me as crying for attention instead of just living your lives, not trying to force your values on other people.

I guess awareness day does make some sense at least in clearing the misunderstandings, but again, most people probably don't care and if they want to be ignorant, you can't really do anything about that.
