just imagine if your favorite yuri author had a folder of hetero fanart featuring the main characters.
I would not care in the slightest, and I think it's weird that you do.
I honestly thought we'd all unite to tell that author to go to hell
You thought people would give up a work they value and appreciate because the author likes some other art as well? Seriously?
Apparently, no one mentions that one of those hetero fanarts was tagged "fixing a lesbian" (the title was shorter).
Which one pic is that, if I may ask?
Also pixiv pics can be tagged by viewers, if the artist configured it as such. So there is a possibility of viewer adding that offensive tag instead of artist. If there's a + sign at the end of the list of tags, and that specific tag doesn't have a lock next to it, the tag is viewer-added.

Honestly, some of the way he and some (what I think are male) Japanese fans are discussing the series on Twitter also rubbed me the wrong way a bit. Multiple comments about how sexy this or that is, and such. Nothing wrong with that normally, but I do think about it when wondering what an author is getting out of their series. It can feel like the author isn't really considering that their characters are lesbians or bisexuals, but rather treats it as an extension of CGDCT (where their sexuality is secondary). Coupled with this Pixiv stuff, I don't feel that confident about it.
Yeah, the unfortunate implication is that some people just treat yuri as a fetish genre, and don't see anything wrong with that. What I hate the most is that I don't think he wouldn't dare do this if he was making a hetero manga.
Oh absolutely, reasons like that (fetishizing yaoi or yuri and not seeing anything wrong with it) is the reason why I don’t really read any yoai if it’s made by a woman and why I’m extremely skeptical of yuri stories made by men…

I think it’s weird that you don’t?? Even if it weren’t his characters I’m pretty sure most allys (and lesbians/bisexuals/gays etc themselves) would think that it’s wrong or at the very least disappointing/disrespectful. If you can’t see how I feel a bit bad for ya. When a character has a canon sexuality (like being a lesbian) then someone draws that lesbian character in hetero fanart it’s getting rid of the fact that that character is only attracted to girls which (to SOME PEOPLE) convinces their already bigoted mind that “deep down lesbians actually do like men”
It’s just extremely offensive, then again, I saw you on the child porn comic so I’m not even that surprised that you don’t get it.

The tag was definitely added by a viewer, I saw it get added and removed multiple times over the course of this drama. A truly massive amount of information was spread -- and continues to be spread -- about what happened, because people on the internet love repeating claims they've heard without evidence.

Ik when I replied to the other person I was more over attacking their main point of blah blah “I wouldn’t care if they made het art of a Yuri story” and how it’s still wrong for someone to do that if we already know their cannon sexuality, fictional or not because of the stigma around lesbians, wasn’t saying that any of the girls already had their cannon sexuality’s out.

What they said is they wouldn't care if an author had a folder with het fanart of yuri characters. They said nothing about those characters' canon sexualities. Tbh I also think this is somewhat of a distraction because, if HEY tomorrow said "By the way, Botan is bi," I highly doubt that would change anyone's mind.

The only thing that would change is tthat people would be upset of the het drawing BECAUSE Botan is already with a girl. If she was bi and not in a relationship then I don’t think people would be getting this flamed about it.
Now that’s not to say that no one will be upset, it’s the internet, and it was on twitter no less, someone’s gonna be mad at some unreasonable thing for an unreasonable reason. But that’s only if the author comes out and says that she’s bi.
And still, in this case talking solely about botan because the author never said out loud that she was bi or something else, most people who read the manga/watch the anime would probably agree that she seems more like a lesbian character than bi because she doesn’t show as much romantic interest towards a guy pretty much ever, so most people assumed she was lesbian so when the het fanart came out, I can understand why people were upset.
Again idk, it just seemed really offensive when he did ts, if he said they were bi then I wouldn’t care as much, but when a character is so heavily lesbian coded then on the het fanart HE MADE comes out and people puts offensive tagging and he doesn’t do stuff to somehow stop people from tagging his work then yeah, I do think he deserves some backlash.

I don't care that people are upset, but what I do care about is how consistently people are spreading misinformation about exactly what happened. I assume this is done unintentionally, but it still makes it extremely difficult to have a real discussion.
To be clear: HEY has never drawn any het art of Kamiina Botan characters, ever. What happened was that HEY was "liking" literally every single Kamiina Botan art posted on Pixiv, and one of them was art -- that, to repeat myself, he did not himself make -- of Botan fucking men. (Later it seems some users added rape/correction tags to this art, but when I originally saw it, it had no such tags. HEY himself of course has no ability to control what tags people put on random fanart he did not make.) The only reason anyone noticed this is because likes are public on Pixiv. After a couple days of discourse, HEY quietly un-liked the art, and to my knowledge has not "liked" any het art of Kamiina Botan characters since.
So if you want to be upset about that, that's of course your right. But to be clear, what you're upset about is, "HEY clicked like on a single piece of het fanart, just like he clicked like on every other Kamiina Botan fanart." So condemn him for that, if you want, but please don't spread misinformation.

there is nothing that makes me feel comfortable and safe as a lesbian than when all my romance media is surrounded by an inescapable miasma of parasocial twitter psychosis. straight girls going out to watch fun meetcute romcoms at the theater don't know the satisfaction of sitting at home wondering whether an artist is saving fanart of their characters or even burning it to a cd-r and writing "i've sure pulled a number on those broads!" on it with a sharpie. anything could happen, and even if it doesn't, i will be getting angry about it as if it did

Oh dang, well now I feel embarrassed- I do apologize, I was misinformed, though I still do think it’s kinda negligent to just like every fan art you see, I was wrong with the fact that he drew the images, I shouldn’t have believed what the majority had said without going straight to the source. Though in the case of what I said, if it had been true, then I still would stand on that point, but in this case the stuff that I had said was wrong-
Again oopsies I’ll do better in the future :P

Sure, here it is. NSFW, obviously.

Online accusations are frequently exaggerated, especially on social media, which is why it's important to be skeptical when you hear them. Even without malicious intent, they often become a game of telephone where someone says something, which someone else then repeats with modifications, and so on and so forth. I've seen it happen many times. So yeah, I definitely recommend getting in the habit of looking for the source yourself whenever possible.

Thanks. It seems like the offending tag has been removed now, and someone's tag-fighting under this pic.

I'm not saying this to be mean, but you really need to do your research into stuff before stirring up a shitstorm. it is easy to get caught up in misinformation on the Internet. Especially given how easy it is for the Telephone effect to happen both on purpose or accidentally(due to misremembering stuff).
It's something that happens to everyone, lord knows I've done it myself more than a few times.
I also want you to consider that this stuff happens a lot in queer spaces on the net, where bad info gets mass spread like crazy because a lot of queer people live their entire lives on the Internet due to isolation. There are definitely a lot of our fellow queers who deliberately spread or cause shitstorms like the HEY nonsense because they do not understand that creators making fiction can do things that go against what the fandom wants. In HEY's case, he's just liking random pictures on Pixiv. Another example is what wound up happening to several members of the Steven Universe crew, getting harassed off the net or having constant shit thrown at them for no good reason. Or, the incredible amount of bullshit thrown at Gooseworx, despite her being a trans woman.
Before you get mad about fandom stuff, please take time to think about if it truly matters. 99% of the time, it don't.

This is definitely important for people to think about. There's so many things to worry about in the real world, especially for people in queer spaces, and the people that spend their time bullying creatives online really aren't using their energy wisely.

Yeah no ofc, it was idiotic of me to believe what I saw a lot of others saying without going to the source of the issue, or at the very least looking more into what the actual facts were. I really do try to understand the whole or at the very least most of the situation before saying anything, I didn’t do that this time, which I’m really sorry for.

I didn’t even know Steven universe had any controversy- and for gooseworx the only thing I thought she got flamed for was because she said she was a nazi and made an incest joke. And while I do think it’s wrong to say that you’re a Nazi no matter the context, I do think everyone who brought it up now, when she had gotten famous for her TADC show, was just doing it to bring her down, which I think is stupid because it makes it look like people should only get backlash for saying stupid stuff if they’re famous. It’s stupid to dig something up that was like what 7 years later, especially if said person had changed. Same with Michael kov. And Zoobles VA who were joking abt saying something that was like N word while being white. Which was again, like 7 years ago. (Wrong but they had both apologized for it)
Gooseworx has been getting an incredible shitstorm thrown at her. It's unreal. I don't even watch anything by Glitch and I've seen some of the stuff. It's incredibly bad.

Oh yeah no a good loud chunk of the more recent fandoms are literally horrible. Like some people were upset that glitch were hosting the last episode of TADC (gooseworx’s show) in theaters, and thought that it should be her responsibility to get the show in all theaters across the world, which is just insane to demand of someone. Especially cause she said that if they want the show in theaters where they’re at then the viewers have to tell the cinema places that they WANT to see it. It’s so dumb, idk why people are so mad abt that. And people were mad that the show had merch because glitch is “indie” which is so STUPID I LOVE MERCH idk why people hate it, especially since merch is where they make most of their money since the shows they make are free to watch. Some people don’t understand that making stuff cost money
Then the Nazi thing, which is understandable, it’s wrong to say you’re a Nazi no matter what but like death threats? Come on y’all- not to mention glitch’s new show, which just had not even its first episode but a pilot episode and it’s already had some backlash just cause of the character designs (which I mean it’s somewhat reasonable but some people are going way over board with the criticism and is now just straight up harassing the new show runner)

Just going to say that people complaining because they think the Gameoverse character designs, specifically the swimsuits for this particular episode, are too sexual are not reasonable. The show doesn't feel particularly horny and swimsuits alone aren't enough to make things horny in my opinion. Regardless, even if the show was super horny I think people need to stop demonizing everything sexual, and the amount of Puritanism on social media is out of control. Yeah though pretty much every fandom is a total mess right now, and creative harassment is sadly super popular. It's a whole nightmare for a lot of reasons and I hope artists can stay sane somehow.

Oh no that’s not what I was personally upset about but yeah there were also a lot of people mad about kit wearing a swimsuit…in a BEACH episode…anyways yeah no I didn’t care about that I was a little ticked off about the fact that, with the women we saw, with the exception of crab girl (which I’m slightly annoyed about because she seems like the “ugly dumb girl laugh at her” trope which I high key hate) all had about the same body type. Mainly in kits world, like the women looked more humanized while the men (especially kits papapapa) looked like actual cats. It just reminds me of ramshackle all over again. Amazing plot but all the female characters look basically the same.
Now since it was just the pilot episode it can obviously change later on which I’m honestly really hoping for. And honestly even if it doesn’t change I’m still gonna watch the show, just a HUGE disappointment on the design part.
Now that’s super common in manga (which I also don’t like-) but like I wasn’t expecting it in glitch productions. Knights of Guinevere did a super good job imo with their character design. All the women we see have a good amount of diversity, same with the men, which was super nice to see.

Glitch has a lot of productions going that all have very different teams. The Gameoverse designs are also over a decade old, just being kinda tweaked for Glitch's production. They predate Glitch itself, I think.

Yeah I think Ross was trying to get the show made for something like...15 years? Glitch is very much a company taking a handful of artists and helping them make their dream projects, so every show is be different in a lot of ways. Gameoverse is very much Ross's passion project fueled by a love for old video games and internet, both for him and his friends + girlfriend that he made it with. It's something where I knew what to expect and I enjoyed it personally, but I respect that it's not for everyone. Anyways, this is all very off topic so that's all I'll say on it.
