akira rules and it's interesting how much more psychologically striking this chapter's tone is than the equivalent in the old version despite not really varying much in what happens, you can get a way better feel for asuka's "i am way over my head here" internal tension and it feels tonally closer to the later volumes of the old version. also despite understanding what rui was going for i could not help but laugh at an entire page questioning why akira would spend all her time hanging out with grade schoolers
It's been too long. Is my memory at fault or did Mom date Atsushi in the original, and through him got to know Akira? While here it seems she knew Akira first.
I don't think there's any explicit confirmation Akira knew Ayako during university in the old version, though Keiko definitely did (as she's the one to talk about Ayako's old demeanor) and I think there's a line somewhere confirming Akira does also have a pharmacy degree (she's not just coincidentally working for a pharmaceutical company with some other degree due to being in HR). Taiyaki doesn't seem to have had a solid idea of Akira and Ayako's prior relationship early on -- though it's just pseudo-canon omake, the volume extras kinda imply Akira's on the same level of familiarity to Ayako as the unnamed Morii parents at the time Asuka was born, which seems ... dubious?
So since they're similar ages, in the same program, and Akira has no problem approaching pretty girls, "they knew each other already" seems a reasonable assumption even in the context of the old version. Like, conceivably Akira could have put up a "please help my moron little brother not bomb his exams" flier at their school and met Ayako while she was tutoring (definitely not dating, given her demeanor and reaction to Atsushi's offer) Atsushi, but "we already hang out, you're better at academics than I am, would you mind trying to help out my brother (ps this probably won't determine the direction of the rest of your life)" seems more natural.

There seemed to be an excess of characters. Was the art a "crossover" with Yuru Oyako?
Yep, there's also a little of Nao (hime cut mom on the right from the first page) and her daughter Rio from Taiyaki's pieces in the oyako yuri anthology as well.
Tried to keep it around 25 works, but same as Zesc, I've bolded those which really stuck in my brain / I consider stronger recommendations, just in case that's too many. I also didn't separate series/oneshots but the overwhelming majority are oneshots.

Why exactly did Asuka stop being friends with Rui in… the second year of middle school? I think it was when she was dating whoever her senpai was. I was wondering if it skipped forward a year and she drifted apart from Rui for some reason in the present day, but it seems like that whole thing is a flashback. I guess it happened a while ago and they started being friends again later on if I understood all that correctly.
From Vol 6-8ish of the old version: as far as I know it's a mix of them being put in different classes in year 2 of middle school (IIRC Rui explicitly mentions this as a reason) and them both being more busy: Rui with club stuff she wasn't doing before, Asuka with various aspects of her cram school (and then assumedly exam prep). Jun also goes to university the previous year which might have been holding them together more as a trio. Ayako's concern Asuka is just 帰宅部 hanging out at home while Rui is out doing things is a large part of why she encourages Asuka to attend the cram school. Rui mentions they're not 'particularly close' -- she's basically Asuka's only 'friend' but it seems to be out of childhood momentum and waxes and wanes with convenience. OTOH Asuka explicitly follows Rui to a "simple municipal" middle school characterised by Asuka's own homeroom teacher as well below her academic skill, so whether this is more 'path of least resistance' or she felt a stronger bond with Rui at that time is up to interpretation.

Akira outside the bedroom:
There is something inside of me growing like venom
Hijacks my brain
The anger spirals out of control
Motherfuckers will pay
akira outside the bedroom: holy shit two cakes lesbians
truly a work ahead of its time
So for anyone who already read the later volumes
so do they f*ck or not?
No. Or at least, not yet. The original left off right after Ayako commited to seeing/interacting with Asuka in a romantic way and we got a great kiss scene. If I may, you seem to be here for the wrong reasons. Everyone's celebrating because it's not that kind of incest manga, and vanishingly rare for it.
Even if they smash in the future, I doubt it'll be explicit. Fade to black and morning after panel is the best we're going to get.
The R18 after-story works Taiyaki put out for her very sweet and unassuming chapters in My Sweet Home evolved in ... some directions. I expect the main series to be exactly as SFW as necessary to keep distributors happy and the tone consistent but I would be reticent to assume the same about spin-offs or, arguably, even omake.

I saw several chapters of the remake some years back, and I really missed the jagged energy of the original art. I have good feelings for this author, and I don’t blame them a bit for hoping to get paid, but I also thought the restart was just an artistic misstep.
From an artistic standpoint I get it; if you are dissatisfied with your work it's just in the back of your mind permanently and can easily kill motivation in the longer term. But yeah, from momentum and fan perspective it's really bogged down so long now ...
... well, she seems to have stuck with her vision so probably shouldn't complain too much if we now get the chance for more finally ;)
Taiyaki was in the position where she could have consistently put down incredible art and been up to fifteen volumes of the original or whatever but she would be trying to sell and promote. to readers and bookstores, a series whose first impression is a roughly sketched hobby Pixiv webcomic featuring half-melted clocks and phone screen contents entirely comprised of wobbly thick lines, so much a YOLO project at the time those chapters were drawn that for some time it was simply titled "Oyako Yuri". Since this is now her sole source of income, there's definitely more practical issues layered on top of the familiar artist impulse to perpetually fix your mistakes (and any perceived lack of progression was more "technical debt" than "lost momentum").
I love the "I am going to bring this thing into the world no matter my ability" feeling in the original art and was initially concerned about the remake plans, but since the worst scenarios were avoided (dropping the series, a partial retreat from the premise) it seems to me, leaning very strongly on the benefits of hindsight, that it was the right move ... even if some people (like me) will probably favor mentally stapling future remake content onto the end of the old version.
But Blastaar's warning about the risk of overprofessionalising was prescient; there's strong use of 3D scene-planning and a resulting very smooth look that Taiyaki has since recognized as overcorrection and dialed back. I have noticed a lot of people citing the art progression in the original as something they found unique and charming, and having a more balanced or even deliberately messier approach from the start might have been better matched the light touch taken with the rest of the remake.
I’m a little confused, if mama is 37 and her child is 16, she would’ve likely gotten pregnant around age 20–21. But the parents are shown wearing school uniforms, which doesn’t seem to match the timeline. :P

The original term is "学生結婚" which can technically be used for marrying in high school but is often used for university students (the law has since been changed so you can't marry under 18 anymore). In the old version of the manga, Atsushi and Ayako met when Atsushi was 16 and Ayako was implied to be about 18. with Atsushi proposing a couple years later at 18. Conceivably he could still be in high school, but Ayako's outfit is basically just a dress shirt?

I haven't read the chapter yet, but i just wanted to state for the record 1×1/2 is just 1/2.
Actually it means the 1 is on top
So the mom is the top?
So how far along is this version now? I vaguely tried keeping up with the releases elsewhere but I admit, I don't get attached enough to manga to seek them out when it becomes too much of a hassle and this one certainly felt like more illusive to hunt than a unicorn at times ^^#
No story spoilers but putting in spoiler formatitng just to be safe since it concerns progression: Around the middle/end of the old version's Vol 7 with some pacing differences/new content/rearrangements/etc. Each new volume covers (very roughly) two and a half of the old ones. The next volume will likely cover everything left from the old version.
Yay, I read this ages ago, I hope MC can move on from her mom crush!!
Not happening, lol. This is Taiyaki.
asuka morii is going to get married to a mid-level supervisor for an office printer after-sales support contractor and have two daughters. many years later she will come home to find them both sleeping with her mom
Their FANBOX is gone as well? Can you not depict incest on FANBOX? I support several artists there but I don't want to create a whole new account on a new site tbh. I will buy on DLSite though.
It's been so long I forget all the details but Pixiv went through one of those trying to please foreign payment processor convulsions around that time, exiled paid "adult content", and suddenly had a lot of topics they were very sensitive about. Taiyaki was in a weird place because her work is overwhelmingly not explicit, and I don't think she ever actually got banned or anything, but based on the vague terms of service revisions it basically seemed inevitable and it was better to move before that point. My experience with Xfolio's international card handling is that it's far better than Fanbox (where certain cards would just be unusable and retrying meant a lockout and contacting support) but it's definitely not commonly in use by artists.

miracles are real but they are performed by human beings thank you cuetie scans
iirc ayako’s reaction in the original manga was partially an artifact of her characterisation still being a little unsteady early on and was almost toned down a little bit for the remake but taiyaki thought it was too funny to change and i’m glad it stayed basically the same, it’s an illuminating character moment and asuka and her still have their fun back and forth
I just checked the textless PSD data pages and hadn't realized those were paid (and I don't know if Xfolio has any sort of quick guest checkout thing without going through making an account, etc), so if that's ever an impediment for a group with serious interest in picking up the series I'd be happy to purchase + provide them since I already have an account/card linked/etc from being a subscriber.
Can someone please tell me I'm not the only person who can't look at the title and hear some obnoxiously British person yelling OI MATE, WE GOT US A ROIGHT BLOOMIN' COMPLEX 'ERE, WE DOES
I can't be the only one.

Her oneshots have been omitted in the English versions of the Eclair anthologies. For literally no reason. Yen Press don't deserve your money.
I remember being (depressingly?) impressed Seven Seas didn't hack away at Syrup Vol 2 to strip out Left Leg's Shackle like this. Most of Itou Hachi's stuff is not my thing, and I recall those oneshots being pretty uncomfortable to read, but publishers and their editorial power already deserve enough scrutiny without letting them also misrepresent more palatable versions of entire works as the full thing to audiences that won't know any better. Reading a lot of anthologies also made me appreciate how strongly story placement affects the tone of subsequent stories and the whole tonal flow of the book.
None of these links posted here work anymore.
The Fanbox was shut down in favor of Fantia (and then Fantia was shut down with the posts still locked to a paid plan -- it would have been nice if they'd opened them all up). If you search the post URL, it's possible you may find more information.

I hadn't realized until now but the single-chapter raws appear to be free on a rolling delay on Xfolio, currently up to Ch8's omake Ch10 (as this is the end of the second volume). Taiyaki also formalized a "I don't care about translation / rehosting these free works as long as it's non-commercial and there's attribution" statement; I think the scanlation golden goose is cooked to well-done at this point, but there is at least a free option if anyone didn't want to subscribe just to read with MTL or was locked out due to Visa/MC restrictions. The series is now up to roughly the old version's Vol 7, although there have been consolidation/additions so it's not 1:1.
sept edit: Looks like the plan is one or two more chapters to finish up the new Vol3 for Comitia 154, so I think it's safe to assume Vol3 will probably end with escalation from Miyuki, with everything following (likely a little of 7 + 8 + 9) reasonably fitting into a new Vol4 that concludes the "first half" and completes the remake - at the current pace that would be Nov 2026. I think the series started in 2016, so that's ten years!
jan edit: Also there are textless versions of Vol 1-3 for TL available now.

due to a neurologically dubious prion disease the parts of my brain devoted to remembering seemingly self-evident concepts like "high school teachers actually shouldn't spank their students" and "countries have vague societal problems" are continuously being transformed into useless tangles of tau protein. thankfully i and the other hopefully-unaffected gals that think teachers are pretty can rely on every mildly spicy manga we click to remind us at length somewhere in the comments

Her Twitter is no longer active ????
She's switched to Bluesky but is pretty much inactive on there too. Negom has had a pretty tumultuous relationship with social media and weird fandom people so I don't blame her but I do miss her "lesbiansex!!!!!" posts.
It's been quite a long time. Does anybody know the status of this series?
The remake is currently at Ch11, so while there are some minor changes, bonus omake, etc, we're somewhere between the old version's Vol 4 and 5. I keep up with the series fairly obsessively, so I'm always happy to answer questions!
What's the status of the english translation on that? Last time i checked it'd been a while since the last update. Is it fully abandoned now or did sensei pick it back up again?
It's been permanently discontinued since August, with the primary reason being that Visa and Mastercard dropped Fantia. The alternatives, like buying Toracoin with JCB (unavailable outside Japan, but uses Discover's network), Amex, or Bitcash codes, are a convoluted and not-English-friendly process, and I'm sure the revenue drop quickly made the whole thing unsustainable.
There were clearly other issues going on before this - especially compared to the Yuru Oyako release, QC was shaky at times (both in translation and typos), the initially lightning-fast releases eventually lagged months behind, and while the old version was retranslated and reformatted to PDF up to Vol4, only Vol1 and 2 were ever available for purchase. Crucially, there was very little communication and no translations of Taiyaki's status updates, which was unfortunate - there's been a repeating cycle of overseas people wondering what happened to the series inevitably resulting in a small percentage sending Taiyaki messages that are basically "i read your whole manga on mangadex!! give me the next chapter!!!!". This sucks for everybody involved, and I think there was an opportunity to address it, but "trying to wipe the fan translation off the face of the earth" was instead chosen.
As an alternative to the English Fantia, Taiyaki opened up the "Translators Unite" feature on DLsite (that I think is basically a way of offering quasi-official fan translations with revenue sharing) for both completed volumes of the remake, and I think there is a Chinese-language version already available. Taiyaki wanted to return all English TL rights to the former Fantia translators, but apparently she was told that was infeasible. So, as far as I know, the remake volumes await a complete English re-translation, when those who might have been open to it have translated it somewhere between one and three times already. I'm therefore (sadly) skeptical an English version will appear anytime soon.
edit: Adding the remake volume release links if anyone comes across this and wants to give translation a go (or buy the Japanese releases): Vol1, Vol 2

No suggestions and you might have already pursued this since you mentioned fanfiction, but I keep a list of yuri series' associated AO3 pages and updated it late last year despite the topic being pretty dead. The disparate original Japanese/fan translation/official localization titles sometimes make it surprisingly frustrating to find series, so you may be able to find fanworks of some series you've already read without even having to read anything fandom-blind.
very very cute, i really enjoyed inui ayu's autobiographical thing too and i'm happy to see more of these. and yeah エッセイ has vibes of "non-fiction work longer/deeper than a blog post but remains personally expressive/subjective" vs the academic feel of "essay" in english.
Yes this age gap is quite unethical. As a 24 year old lesbian, if there are any 34 year old lesbians who would like to discuss the implications of this with me, please let me know.
it wasn't until i became a valid onee-san target for age gap enthusiasts on dynasty that i truly felt my age.......
