I don't remember exact details, but only few districts in Tokyo passed law that allows for same sex couples to enter civil union (or whichever term it was) and those certificates are not honored anywhere else, so if you do go for it, you're pretty much tied only to those few places. So for all intents and purposes, gay marriage still doesn't exist in Japan. I decided to fake a marriage with my junior (♀️) to shut my parents up, actually even uses it as plot point.

That is the exact same thing the video said..

Yea, I only watched entire thing once I posted and was surprised it covered all of this. I thought torukoseki was using it as prove that gay marriage is already a thing in Japan, but if they only meant very limited civil union, then sure I guess.

About subtext. I understand why people want to have clear confirmation and are afraid when things are left ambiguous (anime/manga has really bad track record with this), but to me subtext (ideal) means that there is text, it is just very subtle. That being said there is nothing subtle about those two relationship. You won't convince me that is how friends behave.

Anyone know the one-shot where one girl accidentally tears the other's stuffed rabbit (that she is WAY too fond of) and then dresses as said rabbit and attempts to talk to her? Hmm, actually she may have just dressed as the rabbit in a bid to woo her (and didn't actually mess it up) ... Think it was comedic, I remember reading it quite a while ago and having a laugh, though so I can't be sure.

Pretty sure that is the one.

On the different note. When will manga characters learn that "telling my biggest secrets to someone, when they're asleep" is the worse idea ever? You can't know for sure whatever they sleep or not and you have no guarantee they won't suddenly wake up. Every single time character attempted it, it always failed and doomed everything.

Nya-chan posted:

As for sex crimes, I suspect there are a lot more than actually reported (especially considering the asian culture of "shame"), but on the other hand, it seems there are less "petty" crimes. As in, you can leave your bike without a lock at the train station and you will find it in the evening. But maybe it's just a legend :)

Japan is very safe country. Our professor at university once told us, that you can leave your laptop and there is very high chance it will be still there, when you come back for it. Or that you can go read book at park in the evening and most likely nothing will happen to you. That is why the setting of "was alone at park and got assaulted" is so common in mangas is very funny. Not that it never happens, but going by mangas you would think it happens all the time. I'm willing to agree that not all sexual assaults are reported due to blackmail/shame/purity/all of the above, but I doubt it would be high enough number to suddenly turn Japan into country of rapists. The frequency with which mangas portray rape is still way too unrealistic, but I guess you have to make drama somehow.

romantic attraction and sexual attraction.

Those 2 things were always separate for me, so I really can't understand the issue. You can love someone romantically, while not being sexually attracted to them, the same way you can be attracted to someone sexually, while not having any romantic feelings whatsoever. I'm not inherently against calling it platonic love instead, but most people associate it more with admiration and strong, deep friendship than love, so I feel like using this term more often than not, actually does more harm than good. Let's face it, word romance is very heavy integrated into our culture, so trying to use different word to describe the same feeling, just make people confuse and think there is some difference between two.

Also Konatsu's story is actually way worse than Uta's since she was taken advantage of and raped and then left traumatized without any support and nurse wasn't properly punished for her crime. So it's actually very tragic ending for Konatsu, while nurse got away scot free.

Felt like dub-con, but without getting into it, I agree--- the nurse should've owned up to her actions. It was incredibly terrible of her to just ghost Konatsu, especially after taking advantage of her.

I was actually half trolling with it, but nobody took the bait. When Konatsu thing was mentioned first time, a lot people in comments shouted rape and how Konatsu was 100% victim. I tried to defend nurse and argue it might be consensual or even that it sounds more that Konatsu was the one to tempted her, but I was quickly told I'm out of the touch with reality (more or less ). And now we finally got explanation what happened and... nobody says anything. I guess most of those people stopped reading long ago since releases are not that frequent. Anyway, I have to agree it was pretty much rape. Nurse acted on instinct when drunk. And worse thing, it is pretty clear she had no feelings for Konatsu so there weren't really a chance they would date if she didn't disappear. Konatsu might not resist because of her relationship with nurse, but she wasn't really given a choice either. Nurse clearly didn't want that kind of relationship with Konatsu, but after what happened, she understood that thier relationship will become awkward and she can't work there anymore. So it does feel like Konatsu had it worse than Uta, but since everyone has different level of suffering they can handle, you can't really compare someone's misery.

Well do you fuck your hamster? I know they're adorable, but...

Seriously though, I was referring to how there is law against romance between bestkin which might have similar reasoning. They are similar to humans and have human characteristic, but they still aren't human and just animals/part animals so sexual interactions with them is seen as "animal" abuse and forbidden.

It's a shame really. I have bought manga after reading it here, even if the one I buy is in japanese, I can come and read it here and learn. I understand author being upset but he's being short sighted

Yea, that is how I always look at it. It isn't like most people here would buy it anyway, since they don't read japanese and actual japanese won't go online to read something in english so it isn't really hurting author's sells since it wasn't taking into account foreign audience in the first place. I do understand it's more complicated issue than that, but in general people who wouldn't buy something in the first place, won't suddenly buy it just because it isn't available for free and most people who really enjoyed something will go out of their way to buy it when it's available for them or even in japanese, just to support stuff they like.

獣人 (Juujin) literally means animal/best person/people as 獣 stands for best/animal (kemono) and 人 (hito) means human and is commonly used as suffix in making names of nationalities and races. Like Nihon - Nihonjin. So as schuyguy said it is umbrella term which is pretty vague and can be used in variety of scenarios and proper translation usually depends on context. Still, what we should take from it is that using it implies some connection to animals.
