Not for yuri, but it's still great series.

I don't think gender thing was brought up in anime even once. He pretty much took it as a matter of fact he can't change and didn't give any shit about it. He never tried to act more masculine or feminine. He pretty much just acted as himself from life before. Only time he isn't is when he pretends to be a actual innocent kid and it's not really connected to gender. I heard in the novel he actually has inner monologue about it, but his reasoning is still alongside of "I got a body of a woman now, so I guess I'm a woman". I take some issue with basing your identity solely on your biological sex, but again, his reasoning boils down to "it's irrelevant, all that matter is me having a comfy life". I'm calling him "he" out of habit, exactly because anime never addresses it.

I think it's more to represent how intense it is and how they're not used to sensation because they (usually) never had hot lesbian sex before? Or something like that I guess. Or authors just have no clue how to write a realistic sex scene, but that can't be it.

Holy fuck. This chapter was adorable. It felt so natural. That's how you write tsundere well.

I have to agree. The premise seemed interesting and first chapter had potential, but I'm not really finding humor that funny and that's pretty much everything this manga has.

Also I was pretty much right thinking Igarashi was serious, but thought idea of 2 girls dating was impossible. Hence her reacting with shock to "revelation" that Chidori and Nanoha are dating despite being 2 girls.

The whole "not as friends" Valentine's choco thing casts big doubt on that, as in the context it's hard to read any meanings but romantic ones into it (without some truly tortuous mental gymnastics anyway); pretty sure by that point she'd already come around to the idea.

I didn't say she didn't love her or wasn't able to act on those feelings. She was, but she also dated guys because it's "the norm" and felt scared of Chidori reciprocate her feelings, because according to society 2 girls don't date each other. She pushed Chidori away because she thought it was impossible by society standards.

I hold that her shock at their bold declaration (and indeed entire behaviour thereafter) was essentially her fast-tracking through a few of the so-called "five stages of grief", notably the denial/bargaining phase as it fully dawned to her just how hopelessly and irrecoverably late she was and any faint hopes she still had regarding Chidori not so much "crashed and burned" as "blew up already on the tarmac". (The way she was more or less telling Nanoha to "be good to her" before leaving would be the acceptance stage - "at least I know she's in good hands" sort of thing.)

That's pretty much what I was getting at. She thought dating Chidori wasn't a option, so despite having feelings for her and acting on them, she didn't think she could date her and was just content with "teasing" or whatever, because she thought that was the best she could hope for. And then when she saw Chidori dating another girl she was like "Wait on a second? I could do that the whole time? Well, shit." So yes, she realized both that she was wrong and that she lost chance to be with Chidori forever at the same time. As I said, it's sad she was too scared to challenge social norms and because of it never dated Chidori, but it doesn't justify her leading on Chidori to just keep rejecting her. Sad backstory doesn't excuse harming others because of your hang-ups. She crossed the line few times, so I get why most people want to see her burn, but I can at least understand why she acted that way and she did say sorry.

It reminds me of Kotone from Fukakai na Boku no Subete o. Sure she was scared of breaking the "norm" and it's sad, but it doesn't justify what she put Chidori through. Also I was pretty much right thinking Igarashi was serious, but thought idea of 2 girls dating was impossible. Hence her reacting with shock to "revelation" that Chidori and Nanoha are dating despite being 2 girls.

Wow. So much wrong statements, I don't even know where to start. I'll just sum it up for you. Everyone has their own opinion on what is good and bad. There's no objective standard on that. You're free to have your bar as low as you want. Just don't get angry at and complain about people who don't agree with your opinion. You lost this argument the moment you tried to represent all yuri fans and said "yuri fans don't care about quality and only want escapism". That's factually not true, proven by yuri fans immediately disagreeing with that statement. That's what Blastaar was getting at.

I get where you're coming from. I'm usually not very picky about quality, as long as I'm enjoying it. I usually prefer to read light-hearted, drama free, fluffy yuri too. But I can recognize that not all works are equal. When something is done well, I can get more enjoyment from it. And poor execution can be the reason why I didn't like something. Also depending on my mood I don't mind more realistic or tragic stories. So again, #notallyurifans.

I mean your theory would definitely explain why Miyuki could tell just from her saying "mom"..would Taiyaki bless us with two incest lesbians

I'm pretty sure it's just the classic trope of blurting out your lover's name during sex.

Also not a thing in Japanese or at least not a plausible way to interpret that sentence in original from what I can tell.

Though I still kinda think it was unwarranted since I wasn't commenting on those slow release forums but rather the series' comment section.

If I understand what you mean by "release forums" it's irrelevant. 1. there's plenty of groups that only use dynasty to release their work, so series' comment section is basically their comment section 2. "5. This isn’t the place for stuff like “WHERE IS THE NEXT RELEASE”. Any similar badgering/demands will be removed if they get obnoxious. Badgering the scanlators is poor form." rule exist.

Also calling them "slow release" is again wrong in this specific case, since their releases are actually really fast.

Plus I'm sure in the future if you did find someone who was actually being ungrateful about translations, your wording would most likely produce the opposite effect.

From my experience it usually does nothing, because they never actually check comments again. They only want to complain about lack of new releases. I know there's issue with tone in just written text, but I really tried to be as civil as possible with my reply. Saying stuff like "Now to wait another year for new chapter" is one of the most common complains, so your line did fall very close to it. Still it was clear you were asking a honest question, hence why I didn't copy that part. My issue most lied with your assumption that there are untranslated raws out there and instead of waiting for (lazy) group to (finally) translate it, it'd be faster to just learn a whole new language and read it yourself. Again, you didn't directly complain, but you can see how the implication was there. Too many people feel entitled to new, fast releases, ignoring the fact it's often not easy, takes time and can cost money, while they can read end result completely for free. I only wanted to remind that.

I normally just lurk on here so that was the first time someone actually was out to get me.

I'm more than happy to be proven wrong and admit my mistake, but saying I'm "out to get you" is a little. I simply read your post and saw it as a complaining. It's not like I insulted you or anything. Just gave you 2 simple reasons why it felt inappropriate.

Since it's not like I want to argue with you and there's really nothing to argue about, I was considering simply ignoring it, but concluded I don't want to leave any misunderstandings, as if I was specifically stalking your comments or something, so I decided to clarify.

Yeah yeah, I am fully aware of where the term came from, although what publishers are you refering to exactly?

The ones in U.S. when they were first making deals to release manga. They needed terms to distinctive SFW stuff from NSFW stuff so they picked Yuri/Yaoi for latter and Shounen Ai for former from existing genres in Japan. But there was no equivalent to Shounen Ai in Japan so they made up a term Shoujo Ai.

Nobody calls it Shoujo Ai in official deals. Last time I checked not a single localized manga sports the "Shoujo Ai" tag anywhere on the volumes. So even if they "marketed" it as that, they sure aren't actually putting down the evidence for it.

Well, I can't argue with that as I do not live in U.S. neither I buy manga translated to English in general, but I know for a fact, they made up that term to have a way to market entire SFW part of Yuri. My Japanese professor also owned a bookstore that sold manga, so not only he knew Japanese in general, he read manga as well and naturally was well-versed on the topic. His policy was to read everything his store owned, so he can actually talk about any book he sells and can recommend you stuff. He was the one I learned from about what Shoujo Ai really means, when he was giving us a funny trivia about how Americans fucked up when making up those terms to market manga in America. And it wasn't the first time when instead of just using actual Japanese terms or asking, they made up words themselves. Bokken is not a Japanese word and nobody uses it when practicing Kendou in Japan. Americans misread it when introducing Kendou and it stuck.

Anyway, you can read more about Shoujo Ai and similar terms on this site. It's actually really good and you can learn a lot great trivia, if you're interest in language. From what I read all of it match with what I was taught so it seems like a reliable source.

If everyone had the same defeatist attitude you have, people like the Seven Seas staff would never have done that.

I actively fight against shounen and shoujo ai. I simply don't bother with other words since I agree with majere, they're relatively harmless. At least now when new term is getting added, it uses the actual Japanese definition like Isekai or Iyashikei.

Sure, we make fun of shoujo ai, but there's way more terms we are completely misusing compare to their actual meaning in Japanese and they pretty much became separate words in English, so for better or worse, it's just easier to stick to it than actually try to except people to start using them correctly. I mean, how much success we had with shoujo ai so far?

But we are still in a transitory phase where all these terms get slowly solidified.

Em, no. They are solidified for years. And people actually did bring up the issue before. The biggest sites like MAL or pretty much all other manga readers simply refused to change the way they use those terms, which is what perpetuates their use between old and new fans. Majority of people either don't know they're misused or don't care, so there's no incentive to fight a lost battle. At best you can choose to use them correctly on your site, like Dynasty does for the most part.

The issue with shoujo ai is that actually this terms was specifically made up by publishers as a analogical term to shounen ai (which did exist as a genre in Japan, but that's longer story). The point is, it's not anime/manga fans misusing it. It's publishers creating it specifically to market a entire genre of stories. Try unsolidifying that. I guess there's some hope, since some publishers did start to prefer use of term yuri, even for SFW stuff, like Seven Seas from what I remember. Still for the most part, those terms are so deeply ingrained in anime/manga culture, you can't really teach people to use them correctly at this point.

Ecchi means literally the letter H, which is short for Hentai, which means "deviant behavior". Nowadays, it just means "sex", as in "ecchi suru" -> having sex. Mostly, it means "naughty".

The "light eroticism" thing is a western usage.

And it's completely irrelevant, since we live in west, so for the most part, we are forced to use it using western definition. Sure, we make fun of shoujo ai, but there's way more terms we are completely misusing compare to their actual meaning in Japanese and they pretty much became separate words in English, so for better or worse, it's just easier to stick to it than actually try to expect people to start using them correctly. Kind of like how many American fans use "shoujo ai" for soft yuri... when, in Japan, it more or less means het porn with adult men doing little girls.

Actually it strictly means "pedophilia" and only tells you gender of children they're attracted to, not the gender of actual pedophile.

Actually chapter 4 has been already translated and published on Mangadex like 12 days ago, i don't know why it's still not on Dynasty tho.

Because for the most part staff doesn't actively go out of their way to regularly check all the mangas for updates and mostly rely on people sending upload suggestions. So there's high chance simply nobody requested it for past 12 days and nobody at staff knows new chapter is out.

There's no separate place to uploading images. You do it using Upload Request. Whatever it gets uploaded or not depends on quality, but even if it passes you might need to wait few weeks for it to show up, because images are uploaded in small batches. Also whatever it's your art or someone else's should be irrelevant.

You know a bit sexual without crossing the line into NSFW territory.

I can see what you mean, but I don't think that's the only way to go about it. As you said jokes feel to PG, but you could fix it by making jokes themselves more sexual instead. The funniest ecchi comedy I've ever seen was Seitokai Yakuindomo, which bases its entire humor solely on dirty jokes and have no fanservice etc. whatsoever.
