I've started translating Fuyou 2.2. I'm sorry about the delay, I've been quite depressed lately so it's been hard to do anything, but I'm slowly getting back to it again.

Yeah, numbering them properly broke the way the volumes are divided, so Kinseijoshi opted for 3 digits, first digit being the volume and the other two the chapter number. I was confused by the same thing before too

Explained here before, so chapter 100 isn't chapter 100, but chapter 00 of volume 1 haha

I really can't wait to learn what angle Pri is working in all this. She's out there doing masterful work in collecting info while giving away nothing about herself.

I like Meika, but no matter if you hate her or not, I think at this point it's clear she won't be getting the ending with Diode she wants, so an extreme like that isn't necessary. In general, despite everything they're going through, Terra and Diode are very, very lucky they're able to work together like that and have what's needed to run away.

Terra came from one of the few valuable fisher families and had the pillar boat passed down to her, and Diode was an odd case allowed to spend the majority of the hours a girl from her clan would likely be spending learning to be a proper woman/decomper flying the kayak instead, which eventually led them to finding out about the world outside and obtain a spaceship to take them there, so they both started from a position of advantage compared to most of the women living at FBB, despite the isolation, and were a lot more firm on what they wanted(well, that and the fact they both like women which would serve as another motive not to want to accept things as they are). Even if Meika has a comfortable life with money and people willing to do whatever absurds she orders them to, ultimately she is tied down to her position as the daughter of Nurude, and won't be allowed the same freedom—no matter how limited it is— to visibly defy others and pursue their goals like Terra and Diode are, even if she's got the brains to use her father's dumbassery for her advantage.
The two decided to give up on what conforming could provide them and gamble at fleeing, while Meika decided to take the crumbs and put up with it instead. She gave in to the fact she'll have to get married and become a decomper, and wants Diode to do the same so she can have her as a treat.

Anyway, Meika is awful and that's why I like her. She has it good, a lot better than most, but it's still pretty bad and she doesn't want to/have the courage to give up on everything and see what will happen to her, she would rather force others to be miserable with her and use the power she got to keep Diode glued to her. She knows Diode would never willingly come back to her, but she's obsessed with Diode. She sucks and she can do worse!!!!!! She's awful!!!!!!

Happy that more people get to enjoy it too, when we're done with it all, I want to translate some parts of a text file Ogawa Issui posted earlier this year where he answers a few questions. It also has some discarded ideas, things that he couldn't include in the books and notes such as:

Thank you for the translation. I just caught up with it again and I have to say I didn't expect their reunion to happen as it did. I guess now I can see it hinted at it talking about the particles in the air ducts and stuff. Also interesting hearing about political tension between the clans.

Holy shit, girlswhokiss! Heere's the new chapter! It starts with 2ish pages of scientific jargon explaining polar aurora phenomena in terms of fluid dynamics. Have fun! Well, that marks the end of Koi Fishing! I thought we were making pretty good progress, but girlswhokiss has informed me that we're only about halfway through the novel.

The good news is that Terra and Diode's long separation is over, and there's lots to look forward to as they discover the joys of American beer on the flight over to Table of Johor.

I'm not that hopeful that things are about to get any less stressful for them since Pri has her own agenda going on, but damn I'm glad Terra and Die escaped and aren't apart anymore. Wives should not be separated like that!

Yeah, I also kept waiting for them to turn it around like the last competition but I don't mind this curve ball. Or maybe this was somehow foreshadowed and I just missed it? The vibes were definitely less encouraging than the last time. Both girls are kind of a mess here, understandably.

I liked the callback to their previous awkward shower scene in book 1 where Kanna had no qualms about communal bathing and Terra was like "Don't come in!" The last time they were able to be intimate was also in the passenger quarters of Pri's ship with a sort-of shared bath. Like Chekov's shower scene finally happening. Terra's reflecting on her inseurity about her body and aversion to touch making her afraid of both how she would respond and how a partner might respond to her is a nice character beat.

Also the resolution one liner... 'Turns out I'm a switch.' *Chef's kiss.

I liked the plot of them hitting rock bottom with a million plates in the air and both of them almost wordlessly concluding this was the one thing they were both sure about.
