Amane has some good Ara Ara energy going on, I approve. And Rei has been a queen since her student days, noted.
Okay doctor, give it to me straight
Am I dumb, or the art explanation and motives that everyone was talking about during the competition were kinda too vague and senseless. Or am I the only one who just doesn't get art.
Having spent a couple of semesters at an art school, from what I gathered, inventing good-sounding BS about your artwork is part of the process needed to stand out from among the rest. I never actually understood it myself, but when I (a computer science major) simply mimicked other art students, my grades immediately went up, so there was that.
A little more seriously, and at the risk of being boring about it, I’ve been around a lot of art students, including when they’re writing artist’s statements, and it’s just true that different people have various modes of communicating. A handful of exceptional people are both highly expressive through their art as well as verbally articulate, but a lot of people who gravitate towards visual art often express themselves best that way rather than with words.
That said, there’s definitely a whole line of art-crit buzzwords and verbal smoke-blowing that does little more than signal to others that the speaker is a member of the academic art-world tribe.
