I do really like how the toys are used in this story. A lot of stories use them in a really clumsy fashion (I suspect mostly by authors who don't know much about them) but here it really works.

The shape of a penis has been evolutionarily adapted to stimulate vital points in the vagina, so its only reasonable for people to make toys emulating that shape. More pleasure plus no harm to the yuri if its not an actual dick, right?

More importantly, since evolution is kind of an ad hoc engineer, things tend to be "good enough" rather than "most efficient". So toys are an opportunity to greatly improve upon the design, or possibly specialize on one sort of pleasure over another, or cater to a specific woman's (or couple's) tastes.

Hm, since we're talking nature, I heard somewhere that humans are one of only 2(or was it 3? I think 2...) species with female orgasm.
So I wouldn't say it's shaped for pleasure. More like for fertility.

Female orgasms cause the uterus to contract and pull sperm further in, enhancing reproductivity. Arousal, where the vagina becomes lined with friction reducing fluids, also allows the sperm to travel further with less resistance. It's quite possible that penises with a certain angle, shape, length, stamina etc that could aid in female orgasms would've been naturally selected for because sexual intercourse with orgasms would more often lead to pregnancy than without. A lot of technology attempts to recreate what evolution has done naturally; so the first idea to pop up into inventors' heads were penis shaped penetration sex toys. They seem to work to a certain degree, so I'm pretty okay with them in doujins.
