Subtext? I beg to differ, just because it doesn't have kiss or the characters saying i love you doesn't mean it's merely subtext.
There are moments where Ellis place her head on Nadie in the car
and Nadie makes Ellis lean on her shoulderwhrn they are in the spring(?) while she changed her initial goal from hunting her to protect her instead.
A moment when Ellis start getting annoyed when Nadie keeps talking with a guy and ignore her.
There's a moment when Ellis lean on Nadie in a car asking "do we look like a husband and wife?"
Or when Nadie tries to catch thrown Ellis as they look at each other
and the climax where Nadie has to shot Ellis, i don't remember the exact words said in that moment, and right after that when Nadie feeling sad and sorry(?) And then fall down beside Ellis, helding her hand, like a pair of lover in tragic ending
that's totally love
(sorry if those scenes I mentioned spoils you)
And have you seen some of the official art?
You don't need yuri googles for the anime
Mere friends won't be that romantic, like doing all the scenes I mentioned, because all those closeness combined are too gay
And so I definitely can't recommend this anime to those who wants to watch friendship
Sometimes I wonder if people who are saying subtext were just like those western denial who made up shoujo ai term or too blind.
did they not realize you can convey love even without saying I love you and kiss
not satisfied and want more moment also doesn't mean it's subtext
I mean when it's straight pairing even with no kiss, nobody will deny their love as a mere subtext.
only the manga you may say it's subtext, because it doesn't have romance feel
